Grow
Mr. Jones and JP Phillippe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I grow up
I want to be
Everything except that I could never be

When I grow up
I want to be
The centre of attention
Thatโ€™s just me

The girls will scream your name on the left side
And all the boys will stand in line on the right side

When I grow up
I want to be like me
I donโ€™t want to do what you do
I want to be like me
I want to be like

Iโ€™m gonna show you just how boring I am
Iโ€™m gonna show you just how boring I am
Iโ€™m gonna show you just how boring I really am
I like to be in bed way before ten

Girls will scream your name on the left side
And all the boys will stand in line on the right side

When I grow up
I want to be like me
I donโ€™t want to do what you do
No, I want to be like me
I want to be like

(I'm gonna really show you)
(How boring I am)

Girls will scream your name on the left side
And all the boys will stand in line on the right side
Yeah, all the girls will scream your name on the left side
And all the boy will stand in line on the right side

When I grow up
I want to be like me
I donโ€™t want to do what you do
I want to be like me
I want to be like

I want to be like me

I want to be like me
Not gonna do what you do

Overall Meaning

The song "Grow" by Mr. Jones and JP Phillippe is about the desire to grow up and be oneself instead of conforming to people's expectations. The first verse explains the singer's desire to be everything except what others think they should be. They want to be the center of attention and have people screaming their name. However, in the second verse, the singer admits that they are actually quite boring compared to their desired image. Despite this, they still want to be true to themselves and not do what others do.

The chorus repeats the desire to be oneself and not conform to society's expectations. The bridge of the song talks about the singer's desire to show people how boring they really are, yet still have people screaming their name. This could suggest a sense of irony - the singer wants to be boring, yet still have people excited to see them. Overall, the song celebrates individuality and non-conformity.

@AlexanderBrooke Yep, I know about the Plastic City Label. They truly got some gifted artists in their ranks. Somehow I like The Timewriter a bit less, but Greenberg, Forteba, etc produce some real solid tracks according to my taste ^_^ Thanks for the tip tho, I'm always on the lookout for new great music/artists !! :)

@Batuso88 hehe No prob. :) I actually listened to a LOT of Timewriter yesterday lol. I downloaded all his singles and listened from new to old. Was quite an experience :) He also makes Downtempo stuff under his real name Jean F. Cochois. "Point Lookout" is amazing.

Gabor Pletl

golden track

Do you follow the Plastic City label? I figured since you're into similar stuff you might want to check it out if you don't already know it. Artists like Budai & Vic, The Timewriter, Forteba and Lukas Greenberg make some great stuff for it :)
