Witness
Mr. Rod Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ah ah listen everybody (body), specially you girls (girls)
Is it right to be left alone when the one you love is never home
I love too hard my friends sometimes say
But I believe I believe that a woman should be loved that way
But it hurts me so inside to see you treat me so unkind
Somebody somewhere tell her it ain't fair

Can I get a witness (Can I get a witness)
I want a witness (Can I get a witness)
I want a witness (Can I get a witness)
Somebody (Can I get a witness)

Is it right to be treated so bad when you give her everything you had
Keep on talking in my sleep 'cause I haven't seen my baby all week
Now you kids you all agree is that the way it's supposed to be
Let me hear you, let me hear you say yeah, yeah, yeah

Up early in the morning with her on my mind
Took to find it out all night I been cryin'
But I believe a woman's a man's best friend
I'm gonna stick by hr till the very end
Well she causes so much misery how's a gal supposed to be
Somebody somewhere tell her it ain't right

Can I get a witness, can I get a witness
(Can I get a witness), I want a witness
(Can I get a witness), witness, witness
(Can I get a witness), witness, witness
(Can I get a witness)

Everybody knows especially you girls
That a love can be sad but my beloved's twice as bad
Now you kids do all agree that ain't the way it's supposed to be
Let me hear you, let me hear you say yeah, yeah, yeah

I want a witness (Can I get a witness)
I want a witness (Can I get a witness)
Yeah, I want a witness (Can I get a witness)
Somebody (Can I get a witness)

Is it right to be treated so bad when you give her everything you had
Keep on talking in my sleep 'cause I haven't seen my baby all week
Now you kids you all agree is that the way it's supposed to be
Let me hear you, let me hear you say yeah, yeah, yeah

I want a witness (Can I get a witness)
I want a witness (Can I get a witness)
I want a witness (Can I get a witness)

I want a witness (Can I get a witness)
Witness, witness, yeah, I want a witness

Overall Meaning

The song "Witness" by Mr. Rod is about a man who loves his woman deeply but feels neglected because she's never home. He questions if it's right to be left alone when you love someone so much. He believes in loving a woman hard, but her treatment towards him hurts him deeply. He calls out for a witness to testify on his behalf and tell his lover that it is not fair to treat him this way. The main theme of the song is about feeling neglected in a relationship and questioning the ethics of being treated poorly by someone you love.

The lyrics suggest that the man is in a one-sided relationship where he gives everything he has, but his partner is indifferent towards him. The line "Is it right to be treated so bad when you give her everything you had?" shows that the man is aware of how much he is sacrificing for his partner. However, he still believes in love and thinks that a woman should be loved that way.

The chorus of the song, "Can I get a witness," is an appeal to find someone who can testify about his mistreatment in love. He wants to prove that the way his partner treats him is not right. Overall, the song is a plea for validation and recognition of the love the man has for his partner, who he feels doesn't reciprocate the same emotions.

I’ve noticed something over the last 4 years of watching these, no matter how much they get yelled at and so on, that’s as far as the punishment goes. They will not be criminally charged, they will not be held accountable, no investigations into them. It’s shameful

@thepoopman9951
I did agree. I’m glad they called out Garland, Mayorkis, Biden’s social activists nominees for his posts, including the person he nominated for top bank regulator, Saule Omarova, a former Russian, who ended up dropping out, because of our republican senators, and their hard facts, about her past.

Amy BEthel

I should’ve stated, I “disagree”, with your comment.

Do not just accuse them. Charge them with a crime, as it is actually against the law to lie to Congress. Let us bring it to a trail and get them punished if found guilty.

DEADMEAT

Bad for ratings. Maybe in the season finale.

Kenneth Gee

@DEADMEAT except this is my life they are talking about, and I do not want to play this game any more. Please take action.

GD3Design

Yes exactly, same ole story...catch them lying, committing criminal acts, etc...and it just fades away with yesterday's news. What is going on?!!!

Congress can merely refer to the Justice Department, AKA, the "just us" department.

Good luck finding justice there...
