His DJ name was inspired by his scruffy facial hair, as well as his trademark loose-lined drawing style. He has been DJing since 1994, at first in and around Manchester then nationwide. He is known for DJing in marathon sets (often exceeding six hours), his eclectic musical taste, his love of a "nice cup of tea" and the quirky home-produced visuals and animations associated with his music. In an interview he said: "Itβs about putting a lot of effort in and paying attention to detail. I get annoyed if I donβt take risks. Iβm very hard on myself."

Get On Down
Mr. Scruff Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
(Verse) I'v been sweatin'
you for such a long long time
I'll give you everything
If I could make you mine
Girl the time is now to
Let your feelings flow
If we can we can we can we can Get Down
(Chorus) We can get down It's for real what you feel
It's all good babe
We can get down
Now's the time Make you mine
Like I should babe.
(Verse) Now don't you try to front
'cause it's a natural feelin'
No use trying to hide it
'cause your eyes are revealing
Don't you think it's time
That we start playin' games,
I know you feel the same
So we can
So we can
So we can
(Chorus) We can get down
It's for real what you feel
It's all good babe
We can get down
Now's the time, Make you mine
Like I should babe.
(Break) We Can Get Down (x 4)
(Rap)
(Break)
(Chorus) We can get down
It's for real what you feel
It's all good babe
We can get down
Now's the time, Make you mine
Like I should babe.
In "Get On Down," Mr. Scruff and Andreya Triana create a party anthem that urges listeners to let loose and dance. The first verse begins with the singer confessing her attraction to a person she has been "sweatin'β¦for a long long time." She promises to give them everything if they become hers. In the next lines, she encourages her crush to let their feelings out and dance with her. The chorus repeats the lines "We can get down / It's for real what you feel / It's all good babe / We can get down / Now's the time / Make you mine / Like I should babe," emphasizing the song's central theme of giving in to desire and having a good time.
The second verse continues the flirtatious tone and encourages the object of the singer's affection to stop trying to hide their feelings because "it's a natural feelin'." She invites them to play games with her and admits that she knows they feel the same way she does. The song features a break and a rap verse, both of which contribute to the party atmosphere. The final chorus repeats the lines from the earlier choruses, reinforcing the message that it's time to let loose and have fun.
