The Sun Doesn't Shine
Mr. Vanray & Green Light Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've walked around this planet now for ninety-seven years
I've filled my heart with laughter and I've shed a thousand tears
I've lost everything I've ever owned
I've learned some things I wish I'd never known
I was born in Dallas Texas in nineteen and twenty two
I've rambled and I've gambled and I've seen a thing or two
One wager that I'm sure I'll always win
I'll bet you that the sun will shine again
The sun will shine again
You'll find another friend
The losers will win
The sun will shine again
One day a cloud of dust appeared and blotted out the sun
People panicked fearing that their time on earth was done
The preachers bowed their heads and knocked on wood
The businessmen grabbed everything they could
We lived in total darkness for a year and twenty days
Lots of folk had given up and wandered far astray
The faithful were rewarded in the end
The cloud lifted and the sun appeared again
The sun will shine again
You'll find another friend
The losers will win
The sun will shine again
Every drop within the ocean, all creatures great and small
Sing songs to tell their stories and draw pictures on the wall
With no beginning and without an end
Just waiting for the sun to shine again
The sun will shine again
You'll find another friend

The losers will win
The sun will shine again

Overall Meaning

The song "The Sun Doesn't Shine" by Mr. Vanray & Green Light is a powerful reflection on the ups and downs of life, and the importance of staying hopeful in the face of difficult circumstances. The singer, who claims to have lived for nearly a century on this planet, reflects on a lifetime of experiences that have taught him both joy and pain. He has lost everything he ever owned, seen things he wishes he never had, and wandered far and wide on his travels. However, despite the challenges he has faced, he still believes that the sun will shine again. This is a message of hope that speaks to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

The song also features a striking metaphor in the form of a cloud of dust that blots out the sun, causing panic and despair among the people. This could be interpreted as a symbol for any number of traumas or crises that can occur in life - from personal tragedies to global events. However, the singer assures us that even in the darkest of times, there is still reason to hold on to hope. The faithful are ultimately rewarded when the cloud lifts and the sun reappears, shining once again on a world that seemed lost in darkness.

Overall, "The Sun Doesn't Shine" is a poignant and powerful song that speaks to the resilience and hopefulness that can be found in the depths of the human soul.

[Verse 1]
All I can ever be to you is the darkness that we knew
And this regret I've got accustomed to
Once it was so right, when we were at our height
Waiting for you in the hotel at night
I knew I hadn't met my match
But every moment we could snatch
I don't know why I got so attached
It's my responsibility
And you don't owe nothing to me
But to walk away, I have no capacity

[Chorus]
He walks away, the sun goes down
He takes the day, but I'm grown (I'm grown)
And in your way, in this blue shade
My tears dry on their own

[Verse 2]
I don't understand, why do I stress the man?
When there's so many bigger things at hand
We could've never had it all
We had to hit a wall
So this is inevitable withdrawal
Even if I stop wanting you and perspective pushes through
I'll be some next man's other woman soon
I cannot play myself again
I should just be my own best friend
Not fuck myself in the head with stupid men
[Bridge]
So we are history
Your shadow covers me
The sky above ablaze

[Chorus]
He walks away, the sun goes down
He takes the day, but I'm grown
And in your way, in this blue shade
My tears dry on their own

[Verse 3]
I wish I could say no regrets
And no emotional debts
'Cause as we kiss goodbye, the sun sets
So we are history, the shadow covers me
The sky above ablaze that only lovers see

[Chorus]
He walks away, the sun goes down
He takes the day, but I'm grown (I'm grown)
And in your way, my blue shade
My tears dry on their own
Woah, he walks away, the sun goes down
He takes the day, but I am grown
And in your way, my deep shade
My tears dry on their own
[Outro]
He walks away, the sun goes down
He takes the day, but I'm grown
And in your way, my deep shade
My tears dry

i hate it when people say she was just irresponsible and stupid. she purposefully took too much alcohol, she knew that her heart couldn't take any more, she was told by doctors. It was her last resort because she didn't know how else to escape, so don't just say she was wreckless with drugs. she had a very hard life, she struggled with bulimia and depression since 15. Even when she needed a break, no one told her to stop. Her OWN dad told her to carry on with touring only so more money would come in. No one understood her struggle. when she took to drugs in the form of escape, the media only crushed her more. someone can only take so much.

+Abigail Thomson Well said, in such cases people always know and in the end might choose their way to die, surrendering to their greatest passions, those bad habits. I believe this attitude is truly unperceivable for people who have never been involved in such stuff.
