I think it’s also harsh to class US Presidents that inherited wars or conflict as war criminals especially if they then began the process of getting their country out of that war or conflict.

As far as I am aware Kennedy, Ford, Carter, Obama and Trump did not start any war or conflicts.

Kennedy inherited the Vietnam war started by Ike but had planned a US withdrawal.

Unfortunately he was assassinated and Johnson followed by Nixon kept that war going until Ford decided to bring it to an end all though the US was at stage just about defeated.

Is there a war or conflict during the Carter years ?

Obama unfortunately inherited George Bush juniors Iraq 2 war and Afghanistan conflict but at that stage both wars were more or less over and the US had become occupying forces to try keep peace and establish stable government.

Trump then took over the above from Obama, passed the Afghan occupation to Biden who then pulled the US troops out.

@Joy Cconsidering what Japan did to civilians, I think the US did the world a service by nuking them. Not saying it's right just saying it happened. It was either drop the bombs and destroy the cities or loose 500k-1 million soldiers in a land invasion

Because this also affected future generations not only the people at that time. I can understand that they really didn’t know how big the impact was going to be but the second bomb for me is definitely a war crime.

Edit: forgot to mention your last part the other allies were also tired and starved America was more or less their safety net as if they continued while being heavily weakened while they could of won it would certainly cause way more deaths than any nation would want

@FlamesUPthe time between the first and second bomb was 3 days. 3 days. Not a month. Before America could see the consequences of a bomb like that they throwed another bomb in Japan. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were places where you could not live for 50 years. People in Japan who were born after the war died from the radiation. America killed millions of innocent people and they won’t even say sorry for it. In my opinion it was a big mistake. Especially the second bomb. At the time Germany and Italy were already beaten so every allied nation could team up against Japan maybe they would surrender too.

The way he quickly stepped away from the podium before he even finished his sentence, as if he was struggling to contain his emotions, it really did seem like he 100% believed what he was saying. If I had my tinfoil hat on, I'd say he had gotten warnings or a tip-off that he was going to be targeted for an assassination soon - and he continued giving his speeches with the knowledge that each one may be his last.

Man, when Reagan takes the time to address the children after the Challenger disaster, it’s tough not to get teary-eyed. “I know it might be difficult to understand, but sometimes painful things happen,” is such a heartfelt explanation, and the whole event must have been a real wake-up call, so to speak, to all the kids who thought their role models were invincible. The real world and the true nature of human mistakes was thrust upon their eyes in the worst way possible.

Every single speech in this video was extremely powerful. Especially MLK, Reagan’s, and Obama’s.
MLK could bring you to tears of Joy in a matter of seconds, Reagan was understanding even towards the children in tough situations, and Obama was very motivational and grateful for everything.

I’m glad every single person that did these speeches were alive to tell them to an audience of thousands.

I remember watching with my class the space shuttle challenger exploding - at first we didn't know what happened, our teacher had to explain the tragedy. Even at that young age I felt the weight of it and wondered about those fine men and women who died in the explosion. And here we are now all these years and it's part of history forever.

Fun fact: MLK didn't prepare his I Have a Dream speech beforehand. One of the women standing a bit behind him shouted out to him "Tell them the dream, Martin!" He had told her his dream a bit before the speech, and was not prepared for his speech to be about that subject. Knowing that gives me a lot more respect for Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. He could take a single sentence from someone and turn it into one of the most if not the most inspiring speeches to ever grace the land of America.

Al Gore is certainly not my favorite politician of all time, but man, his concession speech was remarkable by today's standards. He intentionally, conscientiously refused to make the Supreme Court decision a political rallying point even though he had a perfect opportunity to do so. The peaceful transfer of power and the institutional integrity of the Supreme Court mattered more to him than his own election. That takes humility.

I learned of some of these speeches through history classes. I started listening to them with JFK. I have been immensely blessed to have heard many of these in person or on TV, but I heard them. I took them to heart. I was made by these speeches. I fear for those that did not listen and learn from them. The lessons are powerful and positive for growth in America. These last years have proven how important it is to have presidents who know the power of a powerful speech. Not a speech filled with hate and whining. I miss the days of adults running our country and knowing that democracy only lives through compromise. Our strength is our ability to grow forward, not revert to bad days. There were good days as well, but reliving the bad and misguided is wrong. Ending with Obama states it all. The children are certainly our future, raise them right.

George Mcgovern and his 1972 Democtratic Nomination Accetance Speech in Miami is pretty underrated in my view. The come home America Speech had poetry scripture and song quotes mixed with great soaring rhetorical flurishes.

Listening to Clinton’s speech. With three knowledge of the troubles, the trials, the failing ahead.

It reminds me of the hopelessness instilled in me, when I consider my Nation. A nation who I do not believe will rise as high in my lifetime, as it has already been.

I only hope that my generation can pass having built from the ruins, the rubble, the failures a better nation.
