A Tale of Two Cities (2007–2009)
The production ... on the band's debut album uses acoustic guitar interspersed with classically informed piano, soulful, Motown-inspired backing vocals and bass guitar, steelpan, electric drums and unusual rhythm patterns to create an expansive sound. Two of the tracks from A Tale of Two Cities are covers; "On The Street Where You Live", ..................mr hudson rules.................is a cover of a number from the musical My Fair Lady[9] and "Everything Happens to Me" is a well known Great American Songbook classic as popularised by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Chet Baker. The album was greeted with warm reviews from the music press.
[edit]Straight No Chaser (2009 – present)
According to Amazon.com, on 1 December 2009, Mr Hudson is set to release a new album, Straight No Chaser (via G.O.O.D. Music and Mercury Records), executive produced by Kanye West.
"I wanted to make a mainstream record, not structured or ornate," he explains. "The first album feels like an Escher drawing, all these layers and you don't know where you're going at any point. The way the songs are written and produced on this one is much more direct. It's not trying to reinvent the wheel. It's straight, no chaser.

There will be tears
I've no doubt, there may be smiles but a few
And when the tears have run out, we'll be numb and blue
I can't be there with you but I can dream
I can't be there with you but I can dream
I can't be there with you but I can dream
I can't be there with you but I can dream
I can't be there with you but I can dream
I still dream
I still dream
Oh no, I stubbed my toe
Crack comes the pain like a bullet
But at least it goes
Not like us
Happiness came and went; we had a little tear and now the tears are spent
We were trying to move forward love, but it's tricky through a brick wall love
What the fuck, are we doing love?
How the hell do we move forward love?
Had you had a little drink?
Did you have a little think?
Did you have a little walk down the beach and have a think?
Ignorance was so much bliss thanks.
It was bliss but then came the kiss.
My boy drove me all the way home, he said
"Son, it's a situation.
Whatever you do,
There will be tears."
[Chorus: x2]
I can't be there with you but I can dream
I can't be there with you but I can dream
I can't be there with you but I can dream
I can't be there with you but I can dream
I can't be there with you but I can dream
I can't be there with you but I can dream
I still dream
I still dream
"There Will Be Tears" is a soulful ballad by British singer-songwriter Mr Hudson. The chorus spells out a bleak reality of life- there will be tears with no doubt and we might smile but not for long. In this world, we cannot always be there for the people we love, but we can always dream of it. The repetition of ‘I can't be there with you but I can dream’ emphasizes on this fact. Life's moments are fleeting- happiness comes and goes, and so do tears. Mr Hudson narrates a story of lost love that's hard to move forward from. The verse, ‘we were trying to move forward love, but it's tricky through a brick wall love’ describes how love can be complicated, and sometimes it feels like we're stuck in place. Despite this, we can still dream of a life where we can reinstate our love and happiness.
The song's title "There Will Be Tears" refers to the fact that there will be moments in life that will make you sad, and the only way out is to endure it. The chorus: 'I've no doubt, there may be smiles but a few, and when the tears have run out, we'll be numb and blue' speaks on the inevitability of tears and how we must learn to live with them. The verse 'Ignorance was so much bliss thanks. It was bliss but then came the kiss.' highlights how the singer was previously ignorant of the problems that would come with a relationship, and now he has to face them.

It seems to me like mr Hudson was just a couple years ahead of his time. This video, the music, and even his style in 2016 would make him fucking explode. One of the most underrated artists in my opinion.

Back in 2009 I modeled my entire style off of Mr Hudson and Kid Cudi. Now everyone dresses like them and they don't even realize it.
KWL
It has a lot of Kanye influence. And yeah, Kanye is waaaay ahead of his time

I first listen to Frank Ocean's version of this song, but dammit, I'll always come back for Mr. Hudson. Looks like he just packed all his deepest feelings and sang it, even the beat looks alive to me, I'm super impressed with this, have no idea why I haven't found this long ago.
