Mirrors
Mrs Bubbles Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When will you leave?
When will you leave?

Your eyes make me aware of all these sided looks
They used to tell me that you were a piece of shit
Now they say you’re a piece of meat
Your heart can never beat to the rhythm it should
You know I tried to mend it but it kept bleeding
And the almond that’s up there kept on frenzying

And all they see is you, it’s all that ever matters
And all they see is you, it’s all they can remember
And all they see is you, and all they see is you (is you, is you)

Your mouth can never speak the mind I’d like to share
You think nobody wants to listen to your voice
So you keep me in background noise
Your brain is creating the scars of all the things we lived
You make me keep all the weight of the lonely jail
No matter how much I strive you make sure I fail

And all they see is you, it’s all that ever matters
And all they see is you, it’s all they can remember
And all they see is you, and all they see is you (is you, is you)

Sometimes I look in the mirror and all I see is you
Trying to fathom who hides behind those eyes too

I know we belong together
I know we belong together

I know we belong together (It’s not that I don’t love you)
I know we belong together (But I hate believing that they do)

I know we belong together (Free me and I will become true)
I know we belong together (Let them see what’s inside of you)

I know we belong together (Fade away and let me get through)
I know we belong together (So they know the me beyond you)

I know we belong together (Hand in hand against the scary crew)
I know we belong together (But don’t let them forget about you)

I know we belong together (I know I’m nothing without you)
I know we belong together (So stay longer I am begging you)

I know we belong together (Til the end of time)
I know we belong together (Til the end of time)

Overall Meaning

It seems that the singer of the song is in a toxic relationship, and is addressing their partner with questions like "when will you leave?". They are aware of how others perceive their partner as well, noting that they used to be seen as a "piece of shit" but now are seen as a "piece of meat". The partner's heart can never beat to the rhythm it should, which may signify that they are emotionally unavailable or have some personal issues that affect the relationship. Despite making efforts to mend things, the singer is unable to stop the bleeding, and the situation only gets worse with "the almond that's up there" (possibly referring to the partner's brain) "frenzying".

Moreover, the partner's mouth can't speak the "mind I'd like to share", and the singer probably feels unheard and unimportant. The partner's brain creates scars, and instead of helping to share the weight, they make sure that the singer fails. The toxicity of the relationship makes the singer feel like all that ever matters to others is their partner, and whenever people see them, it's all they can remember.

The chorus of the song, which repeats "and all they see is you", seems to suggest that the singer wants to disappear or fade away to be able to get through the tough times. However, they still hold on to believing that they belong together, and the song ends with a repetition of that affirmation.
