Well, I was gone
Gone to the army
I was gone, ver' long time
Well, when I come back home, my baby
Still says she's mine
She still says she's mine
She still says she's mine
She's all right, she's all right
She's all right, she's all right
She's all right, she's all right

Well, I give 'er
Give her all a-my money
Tell me what more, can I do-ooo?
Well now, I really don't
Wanna b'lieve she gon'
She's gon' give it to you
She gon give it to you

She's all right, she's all right
She's all right, she's all right
She's all right, she's all right

Well, I went
Went to the church-house
And I kneeled on my knees to pray
I got to thinkin' about that girl
She drove my
She drove my spirit away
She drove my spirit away
She drove my spirit away

She's all right, she's all right
She's all right, she's all right

Well, I could-a
Could-a had religion
Well, this bad old same day
Tell now, whiskey an' women, won't now
Let the ol' poorboy pray
Let the poorboy pray
Let the poorboy pray

She's all right, she's all right

She's all right, she's all right
She's all right, she's all right.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Muddy Waters' “She's All Right” represent a story of a man who left home to join the army and after returning back, finds himself doubtful about the fidelity of his beloved. The song is composed in a conversational style, with Muddy Waters telling his story through soulful lyrics and his powerful, deep voice. The character in the song has a troubled and confused mind about the faithfulness of his girlfriend as he spent a lot of time away from her. Despite his suspicions, her reassurance that she has been faithful to him still gives him the confidence to continue their relationship. However, as time went by, and the more he thought about the situation, the more he became depressed and felt his spirit slipping away.

The final minute where the bass brings in "My Girl" and Muddy goes with the flow is musical bliss.

Beautiful and timeless !

Muddy apparently disliked the music on this, but adored the royalties. I think it's a worthwhile starting point, a springboard for anyone aiming to develop beyond trad Chicago. It's all out there to play around with.
