Muddy Waters Lyrics

Oh, baby, look how you got me standin' around cyin'
Oh, baby, look how you got me standin' around cyin'
I know I don't love you, little girl,
but, your always restin' on my mind

Oh baby, I ain't gonna be ridin' ya around in my automobile
Oh baby, I ain't gonna be ridin' ya around in my automobile
You got so many men,
that I'm afraid you may get me killed

Oh baby, you ain't nothin' like you used to be
Oh no, don't get me killed, honey
Oh baby, you ain't nothin' like you used to be

When I was deep in love with you little girl,
you was just sweet as an apple on a tree

Overall Meaning

The blues classic "Standing Around Crying" by Muddy Waters is a poignant portrayal of a man lamenting over a failed relationship, and the lyrics showcase the pain and the heartache he is going through as he stands around crying because of his lost love. The opening lyrics "Oh baby, look how you got me standing around cryin'" set the tone for the rest of the song. The man is crying uncontrollably because he can't bear the thought of being without his girl. He confesses that he knows he doesn't love her anymore, but he can't help thinking about her and feeling heartbroken.

The second stanza is about the man's car. He says he won't ride her around in his automobile anymore because he is afraid that she has too many men who could potentially get him into trouble. He is worried that if he continues to be with her, he might get killed.

In the final verse, the man laments over the fact that his girl is not the same person she used to be. He remembers her as a sweet apple on a tree when he was in love with her, but now she has changed, and he doesn't want to get hurt anymore. He ends the song by reiterating that he's not in love with her anymore and that he's hurting because he misses the person she used to be.

Overall, "Standing Around Crying" is a powerful and heart-wrenching song about the end of a relationship. Waters' emotional delivery of the lyrics and the slow, mournful melody add to the poignancy of the song, making it an unforgettable and timeless classic.

That’s Little Walter. Leonard Chess insisted on recording Walter with Muddy,

@slimpickinses

@@jamest.byrnes8142 nope Jr. Junior recorded as a sideman with Muddy Waters at 16, and began cutting singles under his own name at 19, including classics like “Hoodoo Man Blues” and “You Better Cut That Out.” When the great Little Walter, the harp player with Muddy's band, had his own hit with “Juke” and decided to start a solo career, Muddy called on young Junior to fill the place of the acknowledged master. Junior's tenure with Muddy was cut short by the draft but he went AWOL to cut “Standing Around Crying” with Muddy. this also from that session https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41XKirMwJ_s

@NoRosesForMe

this is the ONE Muddy Waters song that I can truly relate to. He never did a bad song- if you are a Muddy connoisseur . But it hurts like hell when this becomes your reality. And all you did was try to love somebody.....

@gitfiddlejimagain

Well yes he did a few duff ones,I  never really liked Mojo workin, but yes this is top notch, along with Still a fool, & She moves me. Len Chess on bass drum on these 3 tracks.
