Following a bidding war, Mummy Calls signed with Geffen Records and issued their self titled debut album in 1986.
The first single from the album, "Beauty Has Her Way", was released to critical acclaim followed by "Let's Go" which received a more lukewarm response.
The band achieved their enduring fame, however, when "Beauty Has Her Way" was used on the multi-million selling soundtrack of vampire film "The Lost Boys" (Joel Schumacher 1987). The song, soundtrack and film still maintain a level of cult status.
A shift in priorities at the band's record label, halted the group's chart rise in both the U.S. and U.K. as promotional dollars were spent on other artists on the roster. The group disbanded in 1987 in order to free themselves from their record contract.
After DisbandmentVocalist David Banks later joined the group Unicorn Jones in 1996 alongside former It Bites members John Beck and Dick Nolan.
David Banks is presently an author and solo artist, living in London, working on a new solo album.
Drummer Paul Brook became an in-demand session drummer, touring and recording with Nick Kershaw, Gary Moore, Greg Lake, Bonnie Tyler, Pino Palladino and The Dream Academy. Brook died May 3, 2007 following a battle with cancer.

I know what you need
Better than you do
I know why you came
I promise you
I know where you go
I know what you do
When nothing remains
I come to you
Sometimes she shines, and I know
Beauty has her way
With her hooks and her grace
Beauty has her way
Lights down, we drown, and I know
Beauty has her way
This plain day
Beauty has her way
The trembling lengths
The conquering touch
Everything to you
And into your flame
I'll follow you
Where all wishes twist
And bitter they kiss
Everything to you
In doorways and dreams
I run to you
Sometimes she shines, and I know
Beauty has her way
With her hooks in your face
Beauty has her way
Lights down, we drown, and I know
Beauty has her way
This plain day
Beauty has her way
I know what you want
I know what you need
I know where you go
I know what you do
Sometimes she shines, and I know
Beauty has her way
This plain day
Beauty has her way
I know what you want
I know what you need
Better than you do
I know why you came
I promise you
The lyrics to Mummy Callsโ song Beauty Has Her Way depict the singer as having a deep understanding of the listenerโs desires and needs, almost to the point of being able to predict them. The repeated lines โI know what you want, I know what you need, better than you doโ show the confidence with which the singer speaks, and this is further reinforced by โI know where you go, I know what you doโ. This could be interpreted as the singer speaking to a lover, friend or even a stranger, as the lyrics are vague enough to be applied to various situations.
The chorus, โSometimes she shines and I know, beauty has her way, with her hooks and her grace, beauty has her way, lights down, we drown and I know, beauty has her way, this plain day, beauty has her way,โ seems to imply that there is some force (possibly feminine) that has a hold over the listener. The โhooksโ could be seen as being both metaphorical and literal - suggesting that the beauty in question is able to lure people in with her charms, but also that she physically has the ability to control or restrain others.
The final lines, โI know why you came, I promise youโ add an element of mystery and intrigue to the song, as the singerโs intent and motivations are not made clear. Overall, the lyrics seem to be exploring themes of desire, control and the allure of beauty.
