In 2000, Mundy was dropped by Epic while working on his second album, The Moon is a Bullethole, which was about to be recorded. Although a four-track EP of that title was released, much of the material for the cancelled album was eventually incorporated into 24 Star Hotel, Mundy's 2002 album.
24 Star Hotel was released on Camcor Records - a label Mundy himself set up, primarily funded by his royalties from the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack. Camcor Records is named for the Camcor River, a popular fishing spot, which runs through the town of Birr. The album contained the song "July", an ode to the joys of the Irish summer, which gained heavy airplay throughout the summer months, and is, for Irish audiences at least, Mundy's signature tune. Other record labels based in Birr include Roesy's Blue Coak Records and Canabrism's Podcomplex Records, both artists being former schoolmates of Mundy.
In 2003 Mundy also contributed to Afro Celt Sound System's album Seed, and to Even Better than the Real Thing Vol. 1 with a cover version of the Shakira song Whenever, Wherever, only with the two words in the title switched around.
In May 2004, Mundy released his third album, Raining Down Arrows, which entered the Irish album chart at number 1. The album has since gone platinum.
Mundy's collaboration with Sharon Shannon on the track "Galway Girl" has become a cult hit recently, thanks to RTÉ 2fm playing the track every Friday since Will Leahy took on the drive time show.
Mundy is the cousin of Fine Gael TD Olwyn Enright and the nephew of long-standing former TD and Senator Tom Enright.
Mexico
Mundy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Will it get better?
And all the cracks inside this love
Will they heal in the bright weather
I think it's time to have a go
Before I met her I was low
And she saved me
All the stupid little crimes
And she forgave me
Promise me this will get better
And it will heal in the bright weather
And as long as were together
I don't mind?
And if we go to Mexico,
Will it be a new leaf?
We'll watch the evening disappear
Into the arms of the night thief
Beside a river of sin
I was trying to dive in
And she saved me
Forgetting to remember
One day in December
And she forgave me
Promise me??
The lyrics of the song "Mexico" by Mundy express the hope of a protagonist for a fresh start in a new environment. The singer is in a relationship where there are conflict and cracks, and going to Mexico is seen as a solution to those issues. They hope that the new scenery, the sun and warmth of Mexico will heal the cracks in the relationship. The singer acknowledges that before they met their partner, they were in a bad place, and the partner saved them from a difficult situation. They are aware that they have made mistakes a lot of times but their partner has always forgiven them. They promise to stay positive and that everything will be better as long they are together.
The lyrics evoke a sense of longing for redemption and hope for a better future. The singer recognizes the effort made by their partner to save their relationship despite different challenges. The image of Mexico represents the idea of starting over, leaving behind one's past, and embracing a new beginning, making amends for past mistakes. The reference to "river of sin" alludes to the idea of baptism, the washing away of one's past, and starting anew.
