Jim: ''I'm sorry your present didn't work out..''
Long John: ''.. Aww, Jim, Smollet sails by RULES and laaws: That's what being a captain's all about.. Me, I sails by the stars. ..''
..
Jim : ''.. Stars?''
Long John Silver : ''North, Jim - Find me north out there among them stars.''
(Jim pulls out compass) ''Well, That's easy-''
(Long John takes compass from Jim and holds it overboard) ''- Ah yeah, But what if you don't have a compass-? Mwwehh-! Mwehuhuah-!
Jim: ''-Long John, PLEASE don't drop it! It was my father's - It's all I have of his, Please... Please-!!''
(Silver hands it back) ''.. I'm sorry, lad..! I were only foolin...! How old were you when he died, Then..?''
Jim: ''..Seven..''
Long John: ''..I were eight when my father died at sea.. First mate, he was. .''
Jim: ''.....My father was a first mate, too!''
Long John: ''..Was he now..? By the powers, WHAT a coincidence, HAH-!''
[Silver points to the night-sky]
Long John: ''-NOW, Jim-! THAAT.. be Pollaris, the 'North Star-!' Even in the China Sea, That's 'North!..''
(Jim points to the distant-star) ''North.. 'Polaris.' ..Soo we must be heading southwest...!''
Long John: ''.. Smaart as paint you are, lad, SMART as paint..! Now, that gets ol' Long John to wondering: ....... Why would we be sailing 'Southwest?' The scuttlebutt among the crew, Is that, Um, we're sailing for buried treasure... And, someone on board.. Has a map..?''
(Hawkins just quietly looks out at the sea)
Long John: ''..Courrse, It's none of my concern, Jim: I'm just a 'Ship's-cook..' Such matters are best suited to Captain Smollet, He runs this ship, not I..''
Jim: ''..Oh Come on, Long John.. You could captain this shiip..''
Long John: ''..That I could, Lad. Maybe someday I will..? Heh..Haha.. Hehahaha..!''
Both of them laugh..

Best thing about this movie is that it knew when to be serious. This scene has zero comedy and it's one of the most effective moments in Muppet's history.
@Dalek44
I always find that Hans Zimmer's music is always gonna be one of the best parts of films like Muppet Treasure Island.
@1krani
"Agh, Gods Jim, I could never harm you. You're honest and brave and true. You didn't learn that from me."
"I learned it from my friends, Mr. Silver. Now take your oars and row away; I never want to see you again, ever."
@iiiiitsmagreta1240
Ikrani "Oh, Jim! 'Tis a shame, really. We'd have made a great team, Jim."

Gonna make me cry..
@MagicSwordFilms
That little burst of emotion at 2:30 when Smollet looks at a shooting star while holding Benjamina’s portrait is really a brilliant composition

Its like the series itself was sailing-away to somewhere where disney couldnt really touch it, Meanwhile they forever-after tried to keep mangling it in the name of cash and remorseless levels of greed but were too stupid and selfish to ever reach the glory of what 'Muppet Treasure Island' ever did again and in general for Jim Hensons ruined dream..
@FlyingTooFast
1:39-1:54 is the part I’ve been looking for
@rippingtons60
This scene mirrored the part in the book I read best. Silver had every reason to want to shoot Jim but ultimately just couldn't do it. He likes the kid too much.
