Mania
Murder Inc. Lyrics

Where shadows play,
You took me too,
We walk on through,
Head over heels,
We fall in reels,
My mania,
My savior...
Too late to scrape the ceiling with my eyes,
We walked into a trap we built from lies,
And even though we thought that we could see,
A thousand other people just like me.
Let go my hand,
Like sinking sand,
Leave me at least,
To drown in peace,
I see it now,
There is no doubt,
My mania,
My savior...
I searched your mind for
Somewhere new to hide,
And left my empty corner to go outside,
I faked a hundred flesh wounds just for you,
For lack of any better thing to do.
And still the bridge collapsed
The space between,
Replaced the gap inside with silent screams,
Raked across the coals - what are you telling me?
Before you disappear,
Let me see.
The lyrics of Murder Inc.'s song Mania describe a toxic and obsessive relationship where the singer is deeply attached to their partner, who they refer to as their savior in their state of mania. The song describes a moment where they realize that their relationship is built on lies, and that their partner is not the person they thought they were. Despite this realization, they still long for their partner's affection and are unable to let go. The first verse paints a picture of a dark and mysterious place, where the shadows play and the singer and their partner walk head over heels. The phrase "head over heels" usually means falling in love, but in this context, it may indicate that the singer is falling into a manic state.
The second verse describes the harsh reality of their situation as they realize that they have created a trap for themselves, built upon a foundation of lies. The singer acknowledges that there are others just like them, suggesting that their experience is not unique. In the chorus, the singer refers to their partner as their mania and their savior, a person who both causes and solves their emotional turmoil.
The third and final verse is more intense as the singer severs ties with their partner, hoping to find peace in their absence. However, they are unable to let go completely and spend time searching for a new hiding spot in their partner's mind. The singer even goes to great lengths to fake wounds just for their partner's attention. Despite this desperation, the bridge between them ultimately collapses, and the silence between them is marked by screams.
Line by Line Meaning
Across the way,
In the distance,
Where shadows play,
In a place of darkness and uncertainty,
You took me too,
You led me there with you,
We walk on through,
We continue forward together,
Head over heels,
Completely and uncontrollably,
We fall in reels,
We are caught up in a cycle of events,
My mania,
My obsession,
My savior...
My only salvation.
Too late to scrape the ceiling with my eyes,
We should have paid closer attention,
We walked into a trap we built from lies,
We deceived ourselves and are now trapped,
And even though we thought that we could see,
Despite believing we were aware of our situation,
A thousand other people just like me.
We are not alone in our predicament.
Let go my hand,
Release me from your grasp,
Like sinking sand,
Dragging me down with you,
Leave me at least,
Abandon me,
To drown in peace,
To succumb to my fate peacefully,
I see it now,
I understand the truth,
There is no doubt,
I am certain,
My mania,
My addiction,
My savior...
My escape from reality.
I searched your mind for
I sought in your thoughts for
Somewhere new to hide,
A different means of escape,
And left my empty corner to go outside,
Abandoning my previous means of escape in search of a new one,
I faked a hundred flesh wounds just for you,
I went to great lengths to make you think I was hurt for your benefit,
For lack of any better thing to do.
Because I had nothing else to occupy my time.
And still the bridge collapsed
Even though we tried to connect,
The space between,
The distance,
Replaced the gap inside with silent screams,
Our failed attempts to bridge the distance left us with inner turmoil,
Raked across the coals -
Forced to confront,
what are you telling me?
What is the truth you are trying to convey?
Before you disappear,
Before you leave me alone,
Let me see.
Give me clarity and understanding.
