Rest now, your hardship is over
Live
Wake up, wake up
And let the cloak of life cling to your bones
Cling to your bones
Wake up, wake up
Live
Wake up, wake up
And let the cloak of life cling to your bones
Cling to your bones
Wake up, wake up
Live
Wake up, wake up
And let the cloak of life cling to your bones
Cling to your bones
Wake up, wake up
Cling to your bones
Wake up, wake up
The Song of Song by Murray Gold is a song about rest after a long and hard journey, specifically to a warrior. The opening words, "Rest now, my warrior" signify an end to a battle or a long period of struggle. The use of the word "warrior" indicates bravery and strength as well as military service or a personal struggle. The next line, "Rest now, your hardship is over" further reinforces the fact that the struggle has ended, and it is time for rest. This line tells us that the person who is speaking may have been a witness to the struggles of the warrior, and is offering the warrior this moment of rest as an act of kindness and compassion.
The repeated lines, "Wake up, wake up, and let the cloak of life cling to your bones" are a call to the warrior to come out of his slumber and embrace life once again. The use of "cloak of life" as a metaphor is interesting because it shows life as something that can be worn, and can cling to the warrior as a garment. The song reminds us that life is something that is precious and should be embraced. The final line, "Cling to your bones, wake up, wake up" is again, a call to wake up and embrace life. The repetition of these lines is a reminder to the warrior that there is so much more to life than the battle he has just fought. It is a message of hope and new beginnings, encouraging the warrior to leave his struggle behind and start afresh.
