Take a Bow
Muse(謬思合唱團) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You corrupt
Bring corruption to all that you touch
Hold
You'll behold
And beholden for all that you've done
Cast a spell
Cast a spell on the country you run
And risk
You will risk
You will risk all their lives and their souls
And burn
You will burn
You will burn in hell
yeah You'll burn in hell
You'll burn in hell
Yeah you'll burn in hell for your sins
An our freedom's consuming itself
What we become is contrary to what we want
Take a bow
Death
You bring death
And destruction to all that you touch
Pay
You must pay
You must pay for you're crimes against the earth
Hex
Feed the hex
Feed the hex on the country you love
Yeah and beg
You will beg
You will beg for their lives and their souls
Yeah and burn
You will burn
You will burn in hell
yeah You'll burn in hell
You'll burn in hell
yeah You'll burn in hell
You'll burn in hell
Yeah you will burn for all your sins
The lyrics of Muse's song "Take a Bow" seem to be a critique of those in power, specifically politicians who are seen as corrupt and destructive. The song starts by calling out this corrupt behavior, describing it as something that "corrupts" and brings "corruption to all that you touch." The chorus then talks about how these leaders will "burn in hell" for their sins, highlighting the grave nature of their actions and the consequences that they will face.
The song then goes further, describing how these leaders are causing damage to the world itself. The line "death, you bring death and destruction to all that you touch" highlights the toll that this corrupt behavior takes on the environment and those affected by it. The line "you must pay for your crimes against the earth" emphasizes the severity of the damage being done and the need for those responsible to be held accountable.
Overall, the song is a strong statement about the harm caused by corrupt and destructive leaders, and a call to action for them to be held accountable for their actions.

The buildup... Is just phenomenal. The lead up to "take a bow" and how the song slowly gets more and more intense before the climax at the end, exploding in a beautiful mix of guitar, piano (I'm guessing) and that cool sci-fi music, it's just perfect. Black Holes and Revelations is my favourite muse album and honestly this is such a perfect opening for it.

And then Starlight starts playing, and it just feels like a nice warm hug after the spooky opening track
