Black Holes and Revelations (2006) incorporated electronic and pop elements, displayed in singles such as "Supermassive Black Hole", and brought Muse wider international success. The Resistance (2009) and The 2nd Law (2012) explored themes of government oppression and civil uprising and cemented Muse as one of the world's major stadium acts. Rolling Stone stated the band possessed "stadium-crushing songs". Topping the US Billboard 200, their seventh album, Drones (2015), was a concept album about drone warfare and returned to a harder rock sound. Their eighth album, Simulation Theory (2018), prominently featured synthesisers and was influenced by science fiction and the simulation hypothesis. Their ninth album, Will of the People (2022), which combined many genres and themes from their previous albums, was released in August 2022.
Muse have won numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards, five MTV Europe Music Awards and eight NME Awards. In 2012 they received the Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. As of June 2016, they have sold over 30 million albums worldwide.

Do We Need This
Muse Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Too many people left you in the cold
You want everything to change
'Cause you are afraid of losing
She only exists when she's on a screen
He's only alive inside a machine
We want everything to change
Tell me do you really need this
Tell me do you really care
Tell me do you really need this
Tell me do you really care
I don't think you really need this
I don't think you really care
I don't think you really need this
I don't think you really care
Too many young and too many old
To many people left in the cold
We want everything to change
Now I'm so afraid of losing
Yeah yeah yeah
In Muse's song "Do We Need This," the band explores the effects of modern technology and society on human relationships. The opening lines "Too many young and too many old, too many people left you in the cold" suggest a sense of isolation and disconnection from others, possibly due to the overwhelming nature of living in a highly technological world. The following lines "You want everything to change 'cause you are afraid of losing" could be interpreted as a desire to return to a simpler time, where human connections were more genuine and meaningful.
The chorus repeatedly asks the listener if they really need and care about the modern world and all its trappings. The lines "She only exists when she's on a screen, He's only alive inside a machine" highlights the idea of people living their lives through technology and not experiencing the world around them in a real and present way. The song challenges the listener to consider whether the benefits of modern technology are worth the cost of losing meaningful human connections.
Overall, "Do We Need This" is a commentary on the impact of technology on our society and relationships, urging listeners to reevaluate their priorities and consider the importance of genuine human connection.
