An early Muse song about online relationships. The opening guitar riff and melody are simple, but become heavier at the very end.
The original version which featured on the Muscle Museum EP under the name "Instant Messenger" featured the AOL voice saying "You've got post". However, due to legal pressure from the aforementioned company, this was removed for the single version and the song was renamed "Pink Ego Box".
At 0:24 on "Instant Messenger", an automated woman's voice can be heard saying "you've got post".
Also on "Instant Messenger", Paul Reeve provided backing vocals.[1]
Allegedly, the name of the song is taken from the name of Muse's old tour bus.

Its gonna be ok
Can't afford another day
At 50 bytes per second
I've never seen your face
I've never heard your voice
But I think I like it
When you instant message me
With a promise
I can feel it
I can tell your gonna be
Just like a
My eyes are gone a strain my heart is feeling pain
At 50 beats per second
I've never see your eyes
I've never heard your eyes
But i think i like it
When you instant message me with a promise
I can feel it
I can tell your gonna be
Just like a
Just like a
You say
You say
You say I'm
'You've Got Post' is a song that explores the excitement and uncertainty of online communication. The singer is addressing someone they have only corresponded with through instant messaging, stating that they have never seen their face or heard their voice. Despite this, they enjoy the promise this person seems to offer, and the feeling that they are going to be something special. The lyrics also touch on the strain that constant online communication can put on someone's wellbeing, with the singer noting that their eyes are strained and their heart is in pain at '50 beats per second.'
The song captures the excitement and intrigue that can come with connecting with someone online, as well as the sense of curiosity and ambiguity that often accompanies these interactions. There is a sense of longing and anticipation in the lyrics, as the singer yearns for something more with this person, despite their lack of face-to-face contact. The song also highlights the downsides to constant online communication, with the singer suggesting that it can take a toll on one's physical and emotional health.

My friend just got out of a purely online relationship after 3 or 4 years. She's completely devastated that someone she has never met in person or ever physically been in the same room as her broke up with her. Never met up, never travelled to each other. Just messages....for years.
People are complex creatures. 🖤
