somebody to love
Musgraves Kacey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We're all hoping, we're all hopeless
We're all thorns and we're all roses
We're all looking down our noses at ourselves
We're all flawed and we're all perfect
We're all lost and we're all hurting
And just searching for somebody to love

We're all liars, we're all legends
We're all tens, I'd want elevens
We're all trying to get to heaven, but not today
We're all happy, we're all hatin'
We're all patiently impatient
And just waiting for somebody to love

We're all good, but we ain't angels
We all sin, but we ain't devils
We're all pots and we're all kettles
But we can't see it in ourselves
We're all livin' 'til we're dying
We ain't cool, but man, we're trying
Just thinking we'll be fixed by someone else

We all wrangle with religion
We all talk, but we don't listen
We're all starving for attention then we'll run
We're all paper, we're all scissors
We're all fightin' with our mirrors
Scared we'll never find somebody to love

We're all good, but we ain't angels
We all sin, but we ain't devils
We're all pots and we're all kettles
But we can't see it in ourselves
We're all livin' 'til we're dying
We ain't cool, but man, we're trying
Thinking we'll be fixed by someone else

Just tryin' to hold it all together
We all wish our best was better
Just hopin' that forever's really real
We'll miss a dime to grab a nickel
Overcomplicate the simple

We're all little kids just looking for love
Yeah, don't we all just want somebody to love?

Overall Meaning

In "Somebody to Love" by Kacey Musgraves, the song highlights the idea that everyone, no matter who you are, what you’re capable of, or where you're from, feels lonely and yearns for companionship. It highlights how all humans have their flaws and struggles as well as their strengths and beauty. It explains that we are all searching for somebody to love, but every person’s journey is equally unique and carries its own weight. Through the song, Kacey says that we are all essentially struggling in our own battles and looking for someone to affirm or lift us. The song also touches on the need for self-acceptance, and how that ultimately ties into our need for love and acceptance from others.

The lyrics also shed light on the essence of the human condition – how we all lead different lives, dealing with different struggles, beliefs, and heartaches, yet all striving for the same fundamental desire: to be loved. Despite our diversity and differences, we all share a common need to make genuine connections with others. The song is a reminder to seek comfort in the fact that we are not alone in our quest for love, even when we may feel at our lowest points.

Somebody To Love - Kacey Musgraves

I just love how she just draws pictures in my mind with her lyrics, makes you feel something, that's what music is all about and she makes it happen hopefully she influences more artists and we get rid of the garbage that gets aired on the radio.

"Miss a dime to grab a nickel, overcomplicate the simple."
Such a good line ❤️

@fe5018

Boise Cranksters, isn't it? I actually started using "miss a dime to grab a nickel" as a metaphor/analogy in conversation without realising it. She just puts such eloquent words to universal experiences and I've found myself quoting so many of her beautiful turns of phrase.
