He released his debut album, ''Aijuswanaseing'' (read: "I Just Want to Sing"), in 2000, which was well-received by critics and audiences. The singles "Just Friends (Sunny)", "Love", and "Girl Next Door" received exposure in America mainly on the more underground music video network, MTV2, as well as on BET. His singles also received a good amount of airplay on urban and urban contemporary radio stations.
In 2002, he released his sophomore album, ''Juslisen'' (read: "Just Listen"), as simply ''Musiq''. He had continued urban and MTV2 success with its singles, "halfcrazy" and "dontchange", the former of which was one of the most played music videos on MTV2 in the summer of 2002 and during the year overall. Once again, its video got heavy play on MTV2 and VH1 Soul, as well as on MTV Jams. He also appeared in Santana's song "Nothing at All" which is featured in his 2002 album ''Shaman''.
In 2003, the singles and videos "forthenight" and "whoknows" from his third LP, ''Soulstar''. "forthenight" was one of VH1 Soul's most played videos of 2004, and also had a very successful run on American urban radio stations.

You and me, good again, like nothing happened
Oh, and it's kinda hard to forget what you said when you left out that door,
Said you don't love me no more,
And now you wanna (sit and talk)
But you don't really(wanna talk)
You just wanna see if you and the things like the way they used to
But your new love didn't (work out)
So, now you think you can just come back and you won (No!)
[Chorus]
I thought it was over, but you come back again
(Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back)
I thought it was over, but you come back again
(Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back)
Thought that I had it all figured out,
Had it all planned out far,
There was gonna be a happy ending,
But you chose to let go, don't you know,
Once you leave, there ain't no baby please,
Can we just go somewhere and be alone (and talk)
But I don't really (wanna talk)
Cause you just wanna see if you
Can get things like the way they used to,
You wanted change so you just (walked out)
But your new love didn't (work out)
So now you think you can just come back when you want
[Chorus]
It's nice to know that,
You been thinking about the love we once had,
But getting over you was hard,
Cause I thought, there was nothing left for us,
Now you say you having second thoughts
[Chorus: x2]
The lyrics to Musiq's song Back Again describe a situation where the singer's ex-partner left them and moved on to someone else, but now wants to come back into their life. The song talks about the conflicting emotions the singer experiences and the difficulty in forgetting what the ex-partner had said when they left. The ex-partner now wants to sit and talk, but the singer doesn't believe that's their real intention. They just want to see if things can go back to how they used to be. The singer seems reluctant to entertain the idea of reconciliation, since they had already started to move on with their life. The chorus repeats the sentiment that the singer thought it was over, but the ex-partner keeps coming back again.
The lyrics also mention the singer's initial hopes and plans for a happy ending with their ex-partner, but they became disappointed when the ex decided to let go. Despite this, the ex-partner wants to come back, claiming to have second thoughts. The singer acknowledges that getting over the ex was difficult, but they had already resigned themselves to accepting that it was over. The song ends with the chorus repeating.
Overall, the song conveys a sense of emotional exhaustion, with the singer struggling to decide whether to allow the ex-partner back into their life. The lyrics suggest that while the singer still has feelings for their ex, they are hesitant to go back to what was a difficult and complicated relationship.

Homegrown Soul Its beat Makes my body start “Soulfully” hand slapping The outer sides Of my thighs. Its melodies, pitches, and Tunes make my body “Soulfully” move as It taps in tune to Its authentic move grooves. My body “Struts” to it, Appreciates it, As it artfully displays its “Soul” life. I’m a “Homegrown” “Soulchild”. As I clean up, I strut walk, as I cook, I strut walk, As I drive, I my body struts from side to side
