Brain on Ska
Mustard Plug Lyrics

This girl comes up to me and says "what would ya like?"
I said another beer another pitcher or two.
Drank a few more rounds and the night was through!
This is your brain,
This is your brain on ska!
This is your brain,
Dancin' on the floor just hoppin' and skankin'
D.J. on the mic won't stop crankin'.
Give me any music that'll move my feet,
Give me any music with a two-tone beat!
Pork pie hats, and Fred Perry shirts,
Drinkin' cheap beer and chasin' skirts!
But what it's really all about is plain to see:
Simply havin' fun and unity!
The song 'Brain on Ska' by Mustard Plug is an upbeat ska punk tune that speaks about the joys and camaraderie of drinking at a pub and listening to ska music. The lyrics, "Drinkin' in the pub just the other night, This girl comes up to me and says 'what would ya like?' I said another beer another pitcher or two. Drank a few more rounds and the night was through!" describe a typical night out with friends at a local pub. It's all about having a good time, letting loose, and enjoying the company of friends.
The chorus "This is your brain, This is your brain on ska!" is an allusion to the anti-drug campaign from the late 1980s which featured the tagline "This is your brain, this is your brain on drugs". In the song, ska music is presented as an escape from monotony, allowing individuals to release their inhibitions and simply have fun. The lyrics "Dancin' on the floor just hoppin' and skankin', D.J. on the mic won't stop crankin'. Give me any music that'll move my feet, Give me any music with a two-tone beat!" further emphasize the importance of music as an escape from reality.
The song also touches on the fashion associated with the ska subculture, with the lyrics "Pork pie hats, and Fred Perry shirts, Drinkin' cheap beer and chasin' skirts!" The message of the song ultimately boils down to the idea of unity and the importance of having fun with friends. It celebrates the experience of hanging out, dancing, and enjoying music together, filling your brain with the positive energy of ska.
