It's not the last time
It's just high time
I think you had a talking to
Because they're talking
You know they're talking,talking
How the last time
You took it way too far
Going (going)
Over the edge!
Another phone call
Another text mess
All the while
I told you not to call again!
But you're not listening
We've hit a dead end
You better wake up
It's the last chance you'll ever have
And now the time has come
And we're face to face
Now is the time
Now is the place
The song "Over the Edge" by Mustard Plug is a high-energy ska punk anthem that mixes horns, guitar riffs, and driving rhythm to deliver a message about reaching a breaking point with someone who refuses to listen. The song starts out with the lyrics, "It's not the first time, It's not the last time, It's just high time I think you had a talking to". These lyrics suggest that the singer has been warning the other person multiple times but has been ignored every time. The song continues with the lyrics, "Another phone call, another text mess, all the while I told you not to call again". The singer emphasizes the point that he has had enough and the person must wake up as it's their last chance to listen.
The chorus of the song is where the energy is most intense. The lyrics, "Going (going) Over the edge!" are repeated with horns and backing vocals creating a sense of urgency and desperation. The final verse of the song kicks off with the lyrics, "And now the time has come, and we're face to face, Now is the time, now is the place". This line again stresses the importance of this moment and that things have now reached a climax. The song ends with a guitar riff and the horns dissipating, leaving the audience with the sense that the singer has moved on from the situation.
