Mutual Benefit is the sound of everything making sense, if just for a second. It is the magic of ordinary moments.
It is sound created and/or tastefully re-created by Jordan Lee as well as an ever rotating cast of ruffians and ne'er-do-wells
Jordan is also proud owner of the tape label/collective kassette klub.

Come to Pass
Mutual Benefit Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Seems like we've waited for a lifetime
But I think it's better not to grieve
For a fiction of how things used to be
'Cause I got a feeling it won't ever come around
And I can't seem to shake these bad dreamsSo we keep burning all our sage leaves
In hopes that the smoke will clear the air
A cure for something that isn't there
'Cause I got a feeling it won't ever come around
'Cause I think it's better not to grieve
For a fiction of how things used to be
'Cause I got a feeling it won't ever come around
'Cause I got a feeling it won't ever come around
The opening lines of Mutual Benefit's "Come to Pass" describe a sense of prolonged anticipation and suspended hope. The singer conveys the feeling of waiting for something to happen, but also the sense that the waiting has gone on for a long time, maybe even a lifetime. This waiting and hoping can be soul-draining and cause some degree of despair, hence the feeling of being stuck in bad dreams.
However, the singer seems to recognize that dwelling in grief or holding onto a nostalgic idea of how things used to be is not productive. They appear to be trying to find a way to change the air in the room by burning sage leaves, hoping that the smoke will “clear the air” and offer some sort of relief or catharsis. Ultimately, the song acknowledges that sometimes the things we yearn for don't come to pass, and it's better to accept that fact and move on.
In essence, "Come to Pass" is a song about coping with loss or disappointment, and coming to terms with the inevitability of some things changing or not fulfilling our expectations. The lyrics highlight the difficulty we encounter when faced with the reality of a situation that is not what we anticipated, and how holding onto the past or an idealized version of reality can prevent us from moving forward.
