Willow Weep For Me
Muzzy Marcellino with Russ Garcia and His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Willow weep for me,
Willow weep for me
Bend your branches down
Along the ground and cover me
Listen to my plea
Hear me willow and
Weep for me
Gone my lovely dreams
Lovely summer dreams
Gone and left me here
To weep my tears along the stream
Sad as I can be
Hear me willow and
Weep for me

Whisper to the wind
And say that love has sinned
To leave my heart a sign
And crying alone
Murmur to the night
And hide her starry light
So none will find me sighing
Crying all alone

Weeping willow tree
Weep in sympathy
Bend your branches down
Along the ground and cover me
Listen to me plea
Hear me willow and
Weep for me

Whisper to the wind
And say that love has sinned
To leave my heart a sign
And crying alone
Murmur to the night
And hide her starry light
So none will find me sighing
Crying all alone

Weeping willow tree
Weep in sympathy
Bend your branches down
Along the ground and cover me
Listen to my plea
Hear me willow and
Weep for me

This band reflected something very positive about the era. During the depression, the way to make money was to lead a band that played corny music. Shep Fields became successful doing just that. But from the late 30's through the 40's there was increasing sophistication in arrangements and instrumentation. Artie Shaw added a string section followed by Harry James and Tommy Dorsey. Shep Fields felt he could do something more musical and put together his all reed orchestra. And in the process he went from leading a terrible band to quite a musical and pleasing one.

CCJAZZMEN

Very well put and I agree. Thank you for your interesting comment.

Trombonology Erstwhile

I'm sure "Swinging the Classics" would not have pleased the composers of these pieces, but I love all of these arrangements. Shep was much more listenable when he abandoned the Rippling Rhythm.

CCJAZZMEN

How true that is without the bubbles. In many ways his reed orchestra was quite adventures.

BlaydonAces

Very interesting and thanks for the historical background info.

CCJAZZMEN

In the UK George Evans had ten saxes in his big band..

Such an excellent orchestra! Just one LP available on Hindsight, the rest is rippling rhythm junk.

CCJAZZMEN

Yes, I do enjoy the adventures Shep Fields and his reeds. Thanks for your comment.
