The band eclipsed their previous success with their 2006 concept album, The Black Parade, which gained generally favorable reviews among music critics. Their fourth studio album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, was released on November 22, 2010, to positive reviews. The band's final release in their original run were a series of singles, released over the course of five months, collected on the compilation Conventional Weapons. The band announced its break-up on March 22, 2013, one month after the final release in the Conventional Weapons series. On March 25, 2014, the band released May Death Never Stop You: The Greatest Hits (2001–2013), a greatest hits album containing material spanning their entire career, as well as some previously unreleased material.
On Halloween of 2019, the band announced a comeback show in Los Angeles, California, and fans speculated that there was more to it than just a show. On November 5, three more shows were confirmed in Australia, New Zealand and Japan. On January 29, 2020, eighteen additional dates were announced in North America.
On May 12, 2022, the band released The Foundations Of Decay, solidifying their return as a band.

My Chemical Romance Lyrics

Wipe off that makeup, what's in is despair
So throw on the black dress, mix in with the lot
You might wake up and notice you're someone you're not
If you look in the mirror and don't like what you see
You can find out firsthand what it's like to be me
So gather 'round piggies and kiss this goodbye
Another contusion, my funeral jag
Here's my resignation, I'll serve it in drag
You've got front row seats to the penitence ball
When I grow up I want to be nothing at all
I said yeah, yeah
I said yeah, yeah
Come on, come on, come on I said
(Save me) get me the hell out of here
(Save me) too young to die and my dear
(You can't) if you can hear me just walk away and
(Take me)
To understand the lyrics to My Chemical Romance's song To the End, we must delve into the emotions and themes that the band wants to convey through their music. The song is about the struggle to find oneself and the pain that comes with it. The opening line invites the listener to join them on this "tragic affair," and they encourage the listener to be authentic and leave behind any superficiality. The line "Wipe off that makeup, what's in is despair" suggests that the band is critiquing society's obsession with appearances and is asking for a return to real emotions.
The chorus is a call to abandon the self that one has been conditioned to be and embrace one's true identity. The line "You might wake up and notice you're someone you're not" is a warning to those who continue to conform to societal expectations that they need to embrace their true selves to avoid living a life disconnected from their core.
The second verse sees the singer continuing to critique the societal norms that he feels have betrayed him. He encourages the listener to join him on this journey, disregarding the consequences. The chorus after this speaks to the feelings of resignation and a need for release from the constraints of the expected self. The entire song is a melancholic love letter to the idea of escape from cultural expectations, a plea for authenticity amidst societal pressures.

Now come one, come all to this tragic affair
Join me in this sad situation
Wipe off that makeup, what's in is despair
Stop hiding behind a mask, it's time to confront despair
So throw on the black dress, mix in with the lot
dress up like me and fit into this crowd
You might wake up and notice you're someone you're not
You might find that you don't recognize yourself.
If you look in the mirror and don't like what you see

You can find out firsthand what it's like to be me

So gather 'round piggies and kiss this goodbye
Gather together and say goodbye.
I'd encourage your smiles I'll expect you won't cry
Let's keep things cheerful and not dwell on the sad parts
Another contusion, my funeral jag
Injury, Funerary decorations
Here's my resignation, I'll serve it in drag

You've got front row seats to the penitence ball

I don't want to be anything when I grow up.
Come on, come on, come on I said
I urge you
(Save me) get me the hell out of here
Rescue me from this abyss.
(Save me) too young to die and my dear
You can rescue me, even if those around me can't.
(You can't) if you can hear me just walk away and
If you can't save me, just leave.
(Take me)
Rescue me.
