Lament
My Epic Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Today he died
He stared in the void then took his own life
You watched me cry
Alone in the parking lot as I felt the now and forever collide

I fight in vain, try to deny, to push back the years, and the weight, and the gray
But it’s in my face, the edge of the infinite, and we’re all just inches and seconds away
My eyes are wide and I feel the weight
Sit down, breathe out, and try not to faint
Or be crushed by the scale of everything

What is man in the scope of existence?
Just a blink on a dot in the dark
But the patterns that weave through the distance
Bear a voice that proclaims who we are

Your love oh God, I feel the weight
For who am I that You know my name
And then leave me the seas to display with the stars
That of all you have made You set man apart

For we are Your treasure

Your heartbeat surrounds me
There aren’t words to describe what You’ve shown me
Each man is in your image
And walking around shining just like the sun

The depths are not void they resound with the truth
That there’s no peace to rest in, till we find our place in You

I see their souls, and feel the weight
Oh God forgive each word I waste
And grant that my throat with the sun would be raised

To banish the dark because I cannot take
Another death in my silence

Overall Meaning

The song "Lament" by My Epic is a powerful and heartfelt expression of grief and existential contemplation. The lyrics paint a picture of someone who has lost a loved one to suicide, and the pain and confusion that comes with such a devastating loss. The opening lines describe the moment of the person's death, adding a sense of immediate tragedy to the song. The singer then speaks directly to the listener, describing their own feelings of helplessness and despair in the wake of this death.

The second verse shifts to a more philosophical tone, as the singer contemplates the nature of existence and how small and insignificant humans seem in the face of the endless universe. This is contrasted with the idea that humans are also uniquely valuable to God, who has set them apart as his treasure. The final section of the song brings these themes together, as the singer speaks of the comfort they have found in God's love and the need to speak out against darkness and death.

I'm glad I discovered My Epic after all this time. I"m sad that it took until now!   This entire album is fantastic with soaring music to go with the lyrics.  "what is man in the scope of existence?   just a blink on a dot in the dark, but the patterns that weave through the distance, bear a voice that proclaims who we are"   JUST AWESOME!
