Down By The Water
My Girl Friday Lyrics

Cause her dad was never there
Didn't have a lot of money
Cause her life was never fair
She was tall, tan & pretty
And she seemed to never care
She was kinds of ready
For someone to take her there
We don't give a damn
We went down by the water with sand in our toes
Losin' our minds, losin' our clothes
When the sun down goes put life on hold
I was raised in Arizona
Where we've got sun to spare
My dad said "son, I told ya"
"Life's too short to care"
I was young, wild & free
And I said my daily prayer
I was kinds of ready
To take somebody there
We don't have a plan
We don't give a damn
We went down by the water with sand in our toes
Losin' our minds, losin' our clothes
When the sun down goes put life on hold
We went down by the water wind in our hair
Singin' our song, singin' don't like we care
When the sun down goes put life on hold
We went down by the water with sand in our toes
Losin' our minds, losin' our clothes
When the sun down goes put life on hold
We went down by the water wind in our hair
Singin' our song, singin' don't like we care
When the sun down goes put life on hold
The lyrics to "Down By The Water" by My Girl Friday tell a story of two young people who are ready to embrace the moment and forget about the past and future. The first verse describes a girl who grew up without a father and had to face financial struggles. Despite all this, she was beautiful and carefree, waiting for someone to come and take her away. The singer, on the other hand, was raised in Arizona with an abundance of sunshine. His father taught him to live in the moment and not worry about the future.
The chorus is a call to action, where both characters head down to the water, feeling the sand between their toes, and shedding their clothes. They lose themselves and their troubles in the moment. They sing and dance, not caring about the judgment of others. The "put life on hold" line reminds us that sometimes we need to step away from our daily struggles to regain our perspective and let go of our fears and anxieties.
Overall, the song tells us to embrace the present moment, regardless of our struggles and fears. We should take time to forget our worries and be carefree, even if it's just for a moment.
