Born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Northern Idaho and Spokane, Kennedy attended Spokane Falls Community College to study music theory. He began his music career in 1990 as the lead guitarist of the instrumental jazz ensemble Cosmic Dust, with which he released one studio album. His second band, Citizen Swing, released two studio albums before disbanding in 1996. With fellow Citizen Swing member Craig Johnson, Kennedy founded the rock band The Mayfield Four, for which he provided lead vocals and guitar. The band released two studio albums and broke up in 2002. After declining an offer to audition as the lead vocalist of Velvet Revolver, he was asked to join Alter Bridge by Mark Tremonti in late 2003, formally joining in 2004, and he has been with the band ever since. He has released seven studio albums with Alter Bridge.
While Alter Bridge was on tour in 2008, Kennedy and former members of Led Zeppelin met and improvised as a group in an informal jam session, but the band never fully materialized. He then started working with Slash, featuring on the guitarist's 2010 eponymous solo album on two tracks and later serving as Slash's vocalist on tour.
In 2012, Kennedy filled in with short notice for Guns N' Roses lead singer Axl Rose when Rose refused to show up for the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
With Slash, Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators have recorded three studio albums. Kennedy's debut solo album, Year of the Tiger, was released in 2018, and his second solo album, The Ides of March, was released in 2021.

You never know, never know, never know
This long lament, this bitter end
Let it go, let it go, let it go
Keep moving on, move on
The road is winding as the day is long
Somewhere beyond, a new dawn
Though it's so hard to wait
For changes to comes
They're only a heartbeat away
The ache inside, the restless nights
So alone, so alone, so alone
And hopes intent to love again
Only grows, only grows, only grows
So here we are, too far
In the deep again with drowning hearts
Where do we start, it's so hard
Through our tragedies, we found out who we are
Though it's so hard to wait
For changes to come
They're only a heartbeat away
The long-suffering is never gone
The tragedies we face, we can't outrun
But time heals the ache
Though all we had is gone
The promise still remains
Of what's to come
Hm, what's to come
And though it's so hard to wait
For changes to come
They're only a heartbeat away
And the hope still remains
That a radiant love
Is only a heartbeat away
One fine day, this, too, shall fade
You never know, never know, never know
One fine day, this, too, shall fade
You never know, never know, never know

He recognizes that all things in life are temporary, whether it be joy or pain, and that we must learn to let go and move on. Throughout the song, Kennedy urges the listener to continue on their journey, reminding them that the road is winding, but that they will eventually find their place in the world.
The lyrics of "One Fine Day" are filled with images of loss and resilience, with Kennedy acknowledging the restless nights and the ache inside that comes from heartbreak and tragedy. Yet, at the same time, he encourages the listener to have hope, recognizing that change is only a heartbeat away and that a radiant love is still possible. Through it all, Kennedy speaks to the human experience, to the way that we all must face both hardship and hope as we journey through life.
Overall, "One Fine Day" is a meditation on the passing of time, the inevitability of change, and the importance of resilience and hope in the face of life's difficulties. Through his lyrics, Kennedy expresses a deep understanding of the human experience, offering comfort and encouragement to those who are struggling.
