Young Love
Mystery Jets Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I only knew your name,
I'd go from door to door.
Searching on the crowded streets,
For the face that I once saw.

If I only knew your name,
I'd go from door to door.
Tell me have you seen the girl,
I met just once before?

One night of love,
Nothing more, nothing less.
One night of love,
To put my head in a mess.
Is that you on the bus?
Is that you on the train?
You wrote your number on my hand,
But it came off in the rain.

One night of love,
Nothing more, nothing less.
One night of love,
Has left my bed in a mess.
Is that you on the bus?
Is that you on the train?
You wrote your number on my hand,
But it came off in the rain.

If I only knew your name,
I'd go from door to door.
Searching on the crowded streets,
For the face that I once saw.

If I only knew your name,
I'd go from door to door.
Tell me have you seen the girl,
I met just once before?

Young love, it never seems to last,
Far too young, until they have a past.
Playing games, people move so fast,
You don't need eyes to see if someone's got a heart of glass.

Young love, it never seems to last,
Far too young, until they have a past.
One night of love,
Nothing more, nothing less.
One night of love,
Left my heart in a mess.

If I only knew your name,
I'd go from door to door.
Searching on the crowded streets,
For the face that I once saw.

If I only knew your name,
I'd go from door to door.

Tell me, have you seen the boy,
I met just once before?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Mystery Jets' "Young Love" express the pangs of unrequited love and the yearning to rekindle a lost romantic connection. The singer sings about a chance encounter with someone they met just once, but whose memory has stayed with them so vividly that they are willing to go to great lengths just to get a name. Throughout the song, the singer describes the futile search for this person, hoping they might catch a glimpse of their face on a crowded street, on a bus or on a train. Despite the brief nature of their encounter, the singer is haunted by a bond that will not let go, as they try to make sense of their residual feelings.

The lyrics suggest that the singer's search for their lost love stems from a deep desire for connection and meaning, but also highlights the fleeting nature of young love. The line "Young love never seems to last" acknowledges the transitory nature of romance and the sorrow that can come with it. The chorus emphasizes this theme, with repeated lyrics about "one night of love" that left the singer's bed and heart in a mess. The refrain about not knowing the love interest's name underscores the anonymous nature of their bond.

Overall, "Young Love" is a melancholy yet catchy tune that explores the powerful emotions that can accompany brief but intense relationships.

this song never gets old, its as fresh as the day my music producer friend showed it to me, I had a hard time in high school but the music he showed me made it easier and gave me purpose, I wanna throw him some love while I'm here as we've been through a lot together, try searching Lonely Gimmick - Beaches, it gives me Mystery Jet vibes and I'm honestly so impressed he made it, its one of those songs that make you happy when you hear it

@ImmuneToKnives

Crazy how some songs are time machines and will bring you back to a specific moment in your life. Take these moments and remember how far you've come. All the growing up we've done, all the mistakes, challenges and embarrassing moments we've overcome. Time flies and we have to remember to seize the day. Make more memorable memories.

“I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.”
