Young Love
Mystery Jets feat. Laura Marling Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I only knew your name,
I'd go from door to door.
Searching on the crowded streets,
For the face that I once saw.

If I only knew your name,
I'd go from door to door.
Tell me have you seen the girl,
I met just once before?

One night of love,
Nothing more, nothing less.
One night of love,
To put my head in a mess.
Is that you on the bus?
Is that you on the train?
You wrote your number on my hand,
But it came off in the rain.

One night of love,
Nothing more, nothing less.
One night of love,
Has left my bed in a mess.
Is that you on the bus?
Is that you on the train?
You wrote your number on my hand,
But it came off in the rain.

If I only knew your name,
I'd go from door to door.
Searching on the crowded streets,
For the face that I once saw.

If I only knew your name,
I'd go from door to door.
Tell me have you seen the girl,
I met just once before?

Young love, it never seems to last,
Far too young, until they have a past.
Playing games, people move so fast,
You don't need eyes to see if someone's got a heart of glass.

Young love, it never seems to last,
Far too young, until they have a past.
One night of love,
Nothing more, nothing less.
One night of love,
Left my heart in a mess.

If I only knew your name,
I'd go from door to door.
Searching on the crowded streets,
For the face that I once saw.

If I only knew your name,
I'd go from door to door.

Tell me, have you seen the boy,
I met just once before?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mystery Jets feat. Laura Marling's Young Love narrate a nostalgic tale of a young and fleeting romance. The singer reminiscences about a chance encounter with someone whose name they never knew. The lyrics express a deep longing to find that person again and recreate the magic of that one night of love. The singer describes searching through crowded streets and going from door to door in hopes of finding the elusive person whose face they only saw once. The song also touches upon the transience of young love and the games people play, set against the backdrop of the city's hustle-bustle.

The lyrics beautifully capture the youthfulness and intensity of young love. The passionate search for a nameless lover echoes the frustration of living in a city where people remain unknown strangers. The theme of transience runs through the song as the singer acknowledges that young love never seems to last. this song never gets old, its as fresh as the day my music producer friend showed it to me, I had a hard time in high school but the music he showed me made it easier and gave me purpose, I wanna throw him some love while I'm here as we've been through a lot together, try searching Lonely Gimmick - Beaches, it gives me Mystery Jet vibes and I'm honestly so impressed he made it, its one of those songs that make you happy when you hear it

@ImmuneToKnives

Crazy how some songs are time machines and will bring you back to a specific moment in your life. Take these moments and remember how far you've come. All the growing up we've done, all the mistakes, challenges and embarrassing moments we've overcome. Time flies and we have to remember to seize the day. Make more memorable memories.

“I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.”
