1) North America South America, an international collective of musicians spanning a wide spectrum of musical genres, centered around Squeak E. Clean (Sam Spiegel) and DJ Zegon (Ze Gonzales). Sam and Ze met in April of 2003 at a friend's studio and began making music together the following day.
At first they sampled rare Brazilian records from the 60's and 70's to make tracks. However, what started as two crate diggers making music for the fun of it soon developed into something much bigger. Having forged a strong friendship through their passion for music, Sam and Ze decided to make a record with all of their heroes and favorite musicians.
The idea was to bring people from different worlds together through their shared inspiration and love of music. Thus N.A.S.A. was born, with crazy collaborations like Ol' Dirty Bastard (Wu-Tang Clan), Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), and Fatlip (Pharcyde) on one track, David Byrne (Talking Heads), Chali 2na (Jurassic 5), and Gift of Gab (Blackalicious) on another, and even the unlikely pairing of Tom Waits and Kool Keith.
Soon Sam and Ze realized they could expand the concept to encompass an entire record. The idea is to ignore all of the boundaries and borders that are in place to keep people divided, such as musical genre, race, politics, geography, language, etc. As a result, they gathered the craziest and most eclectic collection of musicians ever assembled on one album in the hope that they can show, through music, that all those superficial divisions are an illusion.
N.A.S.A. proves we are all one race of human beings interested in collaboration and unity, ignoring preconceptions, and transcending genre definitions.

He said, "Girl, won't you come on down
To my way of thinking?
California is sinking
It won't be long now"
Don't ask me where I've been (way down)
Don't ask me where I've been (way down)
Don't ask me where I've been (way down)
All of my loves, they're gathering dust
To the woods with my cold heart, he is gone
His eyes were like fire
I burst like a star
Don't ask me where I've been (way down)
Don't ask me where I've been (way down)
Don't ask me where I've been (way down)
Don't ask me where I've been (way down)
A little boy from under the ground
He said, "Girl, you're mine now
And you're turning away from this burning
It's all over now"
Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo
Underground king
Only heard and not seen
Therefore, I exist in the deepest of your dreams
No exaggeration
You trapped in my infatuation
I'm like a wiretapping, strapping your imagination
Years of love, tears of blood
You was up the club, like beers and drugs
Now I'm trapped in limbo with your golden fist symbol
See the soul?
Use my eyes for a window
Only death, I can escape from this loneliness
The assault of your love is felonious
It was the kiss that broke my narcissist
Still, I roam this earth, like the Prince of Darkness
Don't ask me where I've been (way down)
Don't ask me where I've been (way down)
Don't ask me where I've been (way down)
Don't ask me where I've been (way down)
The lyrics of N.A.S.A.'s song, "Way Down", are hauntingly beautiful and enigmatic. The first verse introduces a little boy from underground who invites the girl to his way of thinking - an allusion to the underworld. He warns her that California is sinking, and it won't be long before the world comes crashing down. The second verse speaks about the girl's lost loves gathering dust, presumably symbolizing the girl's past relationships. She is lost and alone, until the little boy from underneath comes to claim her as his own. The chorus repeats the line "Don't ask me where I've been (way down)" four times, possibly indicating the singer's descent into the underworld.
The third verse is a rap verse, delivered by an unknown artist. The lyrics talk about being trapped in the singer's infatuation - a wiretapping, strapping the listener's imagination. The singer speaks about feeling trapped in limbo, with their eyes as a window for the listener to escape. The rap verse finishes with the singer alluding to their identity, proclaiming themselves to be the Prince of Darkness.
