I find it interesting that people are simultaneously complaining about having to rely on sound to find people now and that sounds are too loud and easy to find people with.

Especially when the same people who want mini map dots are complaining about not instantly having ghost to stay off the minimap.

These changes are making it so you can use different perks and don't have to use a suppressor. If they did what everyone wanted then most people will just be running ghost, ninja, and a suppressor at all times.

You can still easily flank with the new footstep audio, just don't constantly sprint all the time. Sometimes you need to move slower to sneak up on people, shocking, I know.

You can still rush, they just slowed the overall pace of the game down. So yeah, you can't just jump/slide cancel around a corner, but you can aggressively peek in other ways.

If you're on PC this feels like an amazing mix between COD and the Insurgency series

It's because before movement playstyles were the ONLY meta playstyles. And have been for a long time for most situations in basically EVERY Call of Duty for years. So saying that and backing it up by trying to make other playstyles relevant is actually not a bad thing. And yes they had to nerf movement playstyles to make it happen.

Because it's obvious that they'll never figure it out by simply making maps more suited to other playstyles or anything. Or nerfing every short-range gun in the game. lol. So I guess just nerf the movement itself. lol. But yes I think they are technically trying to back up what they said. For the most part.

It's just making most vocal players mad because the players that are generally vocal about these games are always the ones abusing the movement playstyle meta that usually exist.

I don't think people realize how loud gunshots and explosions are. If you are in a battle with constant gunshots and explosions, you ain't gonna be hearing no damn footsteps.

In order for the footsteps to be this loud the gunshots should be causing permanent hearing damage to the player and the explosions should be making their ears bleed. There is nothing remotely realistic about the sound mixing in this game. Footsteps should be whisper quiet compared to gunshots.

The number of times I activated Dead Silence in MW2019 and died within the period whereby I instantly got it back was rediculous. 2 second window and I'll never get it active.

Also what's with the box, surely if they're going for realism I should pull over to a bench on the side of the map and take my shoes off, then put some rubber soul shoes on. Solid 30 seconds work at least there.

Totally agree with you on this. As for footstep audio, I think it should be toned down significantly, especially when you're crouch moving, ADS moving or just walking. Running can be a little louder, like in Vanguard

You are totally right, I agree with everything you said. Since this is going to be for 2 years, I can see them making is ultra shitty for launch and then making it back to 2019 standards as a lazy way of saying they are making compensations to the community being pissed off......same with the perks saying we tried to make changes to the perk system but then decided to go back to the old style as a way of saving face without any real work. When 2019 was originally launched they had planned on not having a mini map at all, then added it back right before launch. I didn't understand why the outrage not having the red dots on the mini map because I play exclusively hardcore, and the only time I see a mini map is when I use a UAV, but after playing the beta I now understand why all the complaints. I just don't understand why they are not making the game for the people who play it......It's like going to a restaurant and ordering a rare steak, and getting a well done steak delivered to the table and the waiter saying that the chef thinks that you would prefer it cooked this way.

Footsteps in general should be quieter. One perk to make you move faster and another perk in the same slot to make footsteps quieter but not silent. Keep dead silence as a field upgrade the way it was in mw2019.

Also the tune up perk is in the same category as ghost, so if you wanna go full stealth you cant have dead silence as fast as possible. Its pretty crazy cause i keep thinking abt that whole "cater to every playstyle" thing but the more i play the more im thinking stealth playstyle isnt on their list. I dont even go full stealth in cod but seeing people track me through walls with sound alone is abit much

Pro players find the most forgiving gun with the highest hit rate.
They like predictable gameplay so it's relaxe pre shooting and remove over half the weapon list do to it not mattering in the first place.

I think the device thing is trying to simulate an artifact capable of emitting some sort of high frequency sound which prevents enemies from hearing small sounds like foot steps. I would guess the reason of why this was changed is because they wanted the field upgrades to be all about special devices of some kind, and not abilities like own human powers, like dead silence could be, since it's whole explanation is that it's a technique. All that could be solved if only they make it a perk, or if they ignore that fact above and just keep rolling with the dead silence they already had.

I'm with you on this one Ace. I didn't know hitting Dead Silence gave me away, but would certainly explain why I ended up getting killed in a few cases. I like the idea of making Ghost more effective, as yeah, the audio cues can be a PITA, even on hectic maps.

Can kind of understand the sound from activating dead silence, but more so from a warzone point of view, you never knew or when someone had dead silence and was using it until all of a sudden someone runs around the corner and gets you without any sound and the rage that stems from it. Not sure how I feel about it being in multiplayer though yet.. 🤔

I think dead silence realistically should make you slower as your solider is being carful and also the heavier the equipment you have the slower and louder you’d be when walking or least the gear rattling vs light weight people small gun etc should be a bit faster and quieter unless they wanna start adding in clothes to equip fully customised and set to preferences like silent or padded etc
I’m surprised that hasn’t already come into effect and then using maps weather conditions to do some slight changes depending on clothes worn but that’s probably way to much effort

All cods and decent players know that Multiplayer is all about tempo. Stopping for 1-2 seconds for activation actually hinders that tempo a fair bit which as you stated could be the difference between catching that flank or a potential turn and burn.

On my side I feel the dead silence can be recharged within 10 seconds (The kills in the last several seconds of the upgrade will not help recharge). It is just stupid because you can only kill 1~2 with that and camp for other 3~5 people walking around you.

I mean, my favorite way to play has always been a shotgun with either a launcher or revolver, and ghost. I don't necessarily want to stay removed from the map, but I want it to be too late to distance me when I do appear. Between this, the perk system, and the footsteps, I'm kinda tapped out of playing like that too. Aggression be damned in the "Support all play styles" game we were advertised. Which is sad, because there is a lot I like going on here in other aspects of the game.

One thing I liked about Vanguard was how they did dead silence. It made your foot steps quite and you had a temporary ghost. With this you can have both dead silence as a perk and a field upgrade.

It sounds good on paper but it might be problematic having a free perk slot. I think overclock is messed up right now but it allows two charges and 40% faster charge time alongside kills reducing cooldowns.

Imo I prefer dead silence as a perk but ONLY if we can counter it like og MW2/3. It's kinda weird they won't do counter perks like sonic boom vs flak jacket or stopping power vs jugg, etc

I'd consider slightly lowering footstep audio across the board with the exception of tactical sprint and giving dead silence the bonus effect of increased enemy footstep audio (basically same audio level as we currently have it). Keep the audio ping, but make it audible to yourself so casual players can recognize it and bump up the movement speed to atleast 5%.

I like the idea of making it a field upgrade but this gives it enough of a buff in my eyes to justify it not being an ultimate perk. Need more movement based field upgrades imo. Maybe a proximity radar field upgrade that gives general direction of close range enemies that are standing still and/or in prone stance.

To be honest, the footstep audio being super reliable in this game makes nerfing dead silence justifiable. I would say, movement speed, ads speed/hipfire builds with dead silence is meta right now because of the atrocious spawn algorithm. Most of my games with this build has been an easy 2+ kd while trying to flank enemies through dead silence. And with dead silence still refreshing from kills, it's no doubt that it's the best field upgrade of all, pair it with overclock (or ghost when enemies have UAVs).

It should be a perk, it's effects should be reduced significantly, and footsteps in general should be slightly quieter. As someone who mainly plays SnD, Dead Silence is so ungodly powerful that I'm fine with it being nerfed, it was awful in 2019 for the same reasons. It and the perk system need serious changes if they want 6v6 elimination modes to work, which considering the added 2 new ones, they probably do.

I played the early beta and I didn't preorder. I actually paid the $5 for the early beta code for this exact reason. Maybe it should be posted on Reddit that all players should cancel their preorder until fair a balanced changes are made. Hi Ace, Given this is the game we now have locked in for 2 years, if they don’t fix these kind of issues player numbers are going to drop dramatically. I think this Call of Duty above all others has a lot of pressure to keep there player base happy and coming back month after month.

Having spent many hours playing over the last few weeks this game has great potential, however silly little things like an activation noise for DS is just frustrating. I wonder sometimes who comes up with this, have they not played the game before.

I hope I’m wrong but if they don’t listen to the community and act this time I think they will lose many players for good.

I'm really looking forward to this game, but something has got to give with either Dead Silence or these thunderously loud footsteps. It just makes me miss Cold War all over again. Cold War wasn't perfect, but they got almost everything right that I think they could have given the development situation in that game and of course they didn't have control over the strict SBMM or anything.

I wish more people talked about the lacking name plates. I've died countless times because friendlies far on the map have their dots over the enemies head. It's horrible. It's also just 100x harder to spot and keep your aim on enemies that are behind covet and mostly not visible esp against shadows and with how they don't even have HDR settings

There is one buff to Dead Silence in the beta that went unmentioned. I haven’t figured out the timing yet, but if you get killed very soon after activating Dead Silence, your use will be “refunded” and you can activate again upon respawn. The timer for refund after activation seems to be about 2-3 seconds, but again, I need to do more testing to be sure.

I agree with everything you said about the nerfs, but this is also an important buff that deserves a mention.

I can live without slide canceling but not being able to immediately transition into aiming for a quick corner peak or firing while sliding really kills that mobility that made MW19 so much fun. Even if that game was drug down by MANY annoying flaws, its movement was super smoothy which really brought me back after a good 8 years.

Wow I didn't even know about the sound the enemies hear when you pop dead silence...great game design. I really don't think I will buy this game at launch. Since it is a two-year game I'll wait and see if they fix some of the things I don't like and maybe even get it discounted.
It feels to me they are trying to make the game more tactical like Rainbow Six Siege or maybe even CS:GO or Valorant, with everyone peeking corners with their gun mounted waiting for someone to come around. But if I wanted to play those kind of games I would just play those games.
Personally I think me not buying the game won't make any difference so I'd really like to see content creators ditching this game for something else, which I know is something that most likely will not happen.

All the other Field Upgrades have animations, the animation brings it in line with the others. Dead Silence has always been the best "Solo Perk/Field Upgrade" bringing it more in line with the others and creating times when you SHOULD NOT just press it is good. I do agree it should not have a sound attached to it but the animation should stay to keep it in line with the other Field Upgrades. Overall footstep audio is too loud, I believe they should take a step back to see how far it actually goes and pull it back slowly until the general consensus is its in a solid place. Most likely footstep audio is more balanced towards DMZ and Warzone 2.0 where these loud footsteps that are crystal clear will fit in.

dont mention that when full sprint, popping a deady slows you down real big, then your teammates just out sprint your push/rush. I find that speed boost from 2019 dead silence allowed us to out pace our teammates letting us stay silent rather having teammates run along side us letting us with their loud boots. Also, tip toeing type of running isnt an activation.. your body literally does it when you want to, so old MW 2019 deady was more realistic

The way DS is done here is whatever, but one of the biggest issues that hasn’t been touched on much is the lack of name tags/plates. CoD isn’t a military simulator, it’s an arcade shooter. And there is a reason why name tags have ALWAYS been in CoD: they work. Changing things that don’t need to be changed and harming gameplay just seems to be their goal now

After playing the beta, I am swinging towards cancelling my pre-order just because the devs are trying way too much to cater the casual/campy players. Playing aggressive in this game is just a punishment because of the extremely low ttk, no radar, slow movement and loud footsteps.

low TTK helps you lol. if you get a good flank and find more than one enemy then you are way more likely to be able to kill both with a fast TTK. Slow TTK gives at least one of them ample time to turn and burn you.

Every video you post about this game should give viewers the notion that MWII is just not worth it in its current state.

I don’t know if you’ve done this yet but can you test the movement speeds? I deleted the beta like 3 days ago but I noticed that the walk speed and the sprint speed (not the tactical sprint) felt so identical that it was hardly worth sprinting so I could avoid making too much noise.

Any form of Dead Silence is too strong to be a perk. If it's a perk, then everyone will have it on which means the community of players will more or less nerf the footsteps at the expense of a perk slot. It's fine the way it is as a field upgrade. I also feel like a lot of the feedback and opinions from youtubers on this game boils down to "it's not how I'm used to it being (or the way it's been across multiple games) so they should change it back to the way it was" which just comes across as whiney.

Even Cav in R6 has a more logical silent footstep mechanic. When her ability is activated her footsteps are quieter when walking/crouch walking but when she’s sprinting the footsteps will be much louder.

Maps are too big for 6v6 which encourages camping…if you’re too long in one location then your location should be broadcasted on the mini map, which in turn forces players to move around the map….which helps eliminate camping.

I personally think most of these game design decisions are coming down to how they were pushing their improved audio package as part of the game improvements. That's why we are dealing with such ridiculous footstep audio and all the extra unnecessary sounds.
I've also noticed that suppressor attachments on your guns don't seem to significantly lower your gun audio either which also affects the ability to play stealthy/flanking styles of gameplay.
This game is pretty much going to come down to who can afford the best set of headphones to play with as I've noticed some people seem to be able to hear you coming from miles away.

1 thing for sure, the hip fire accuracy while the animation is going from popping the dead silence on, is insane. I spotted an enemy in a S&D match far and I mean, FAR away in the distance, while popping dead silence on. I started spraying hip fire with my MP5 within the animation and got the kill with spraying 15 bullets. That was insane🤣

You know having played games other than CoD in recent years, I do understand why Dead Silence was nerfed this hard in IW games, seeing from any other short TTK FPS players’ perspective, footsteps are sth that cannot be silenced or tone down by any degree if without some serious punishment, it’s a part of field awareness that ppl are accustomed to consider, in other games if you hear nth or light footsteps in your headset you know there’s no one around or the guy is still far off, if Dead Silence were a perk that would make footsteps unreliable and inconsistent, which for many can turn off their interest for playing the game, and tbh footsteps audio are okay if you’ve been playing games beside CoD

We found that Dead Silence was punishing players since they couldn't hear the enemy with dead silence. So we added the sound que and delay of activation to allow sentinel players the ability to hear and get a chance to counter players trying to be aggressive on their flank.

If a perk is going to be a counter to something, then make it a good counter, a valuable counter that competes with other perks in its slot. Not a half measure cause you don't actually want to make it strong or seemingly have it at all. But it's too requested to leave out so instead we get this "dead silence".

Dead silence in mwii doesn't even make you silent after activation it quiets your steps by about 75 percent still audible just sounds more like Crouch walking but faster . Had many kill cams where timing the silence was off due to animation and an extra person covered the angle so less than 3 seconds after activation I died watched kill cam and could still hear myself approaching

I think what a lot of people are missing from this conversation are what the various design goals for this game are. To me it seems like some equipment and stats were balanced more around warzone, rather than 6v6 multi-player. Good example is the load out drop field upgrade. Its basically useless in 6v6, but in something like warzone where you only have 1 life. That upgrade is much more valuable. Dead silence may be in a similar situation where that loud sound may exist to let a player in warzone know, (hey someone is close by, be carfull). In the regular multi-player it just happens to be too loud and takes too long to enable.

Now that makes sense. I was wondering why every time I activated dead Silence the Enemies knew exactly where I was at🤦🏽‍♂️. Sidenote: They need to fix that second chance perk. Like there’s no way I drop the Enemy, the perk Activates then my teammate Kills him while he’s crawling (They’re completely vulnerable BTW) then the dude gets the kill instead of me. They should be given the assist and I should be given the kill. Since I’m the one who did all the work. It would’ve been my kill anyways if they didn’t have the perk on🤷🏽‍♂️. That’s just my take, because I’ve gotten a few nukes stolen from me because of this and then the game ends on the 28th or 29th kill streak🥲

Another thing I noticed is in mw19 if you died within the first second or so of popping dead silence would stay charged when you reswpan versus in this game if you even start the animation you will lose it if you die

Entirely fine with how it is and like that there’s a sound with it. People just need to adjust and start thinking a little bit ahead of time. Every great advantage should have at least a slight disadvantage especially to keep everyone from using the same thing which is the case in every COD game. They should absolutely lower footstep audio by another 25%, fix the audio through walls, as in I can’t hear footsteps through a solid wall except for where sound would logically escape, and reduce the distance I can hear footsteps cause some of these maps in Search I can literally someone halfway across the map (looking at you Farm)

If IW buffed dead silence like you're saying, there would be almost no reason at all, except maybe some situational uses, to use any other field upgrade. Half of them are already kinda useless, like the mobile wall. With how loud the footsteps are, buffing dead silence would make it even more crutch. Of course the activation sound is dumb, but there's no point in balancing all of these things, when the root cause of these problems is the super loud footsteps.

I used Ninja and Forward Intel a lot in Vanguard as it suited my playstyle. Perhaps they will add such things as the game progresses and they get more data on how campy the beta is. Don't get me wrong, they nailed the directional audio and I have to give them kudos for that, but knowing how loud your footsteps are to other players slows the game down a lot.

My main problems with this game is dead silence not being a perk, the perk system in general, the loud footsteps, visibility of players and no red name tags. My main problems is the dead silence tho. Every death i have is someone waiting around a corner after hearing my footsteps. Ive just cancelled my preorder now and im not gonna buy the game unless they bring back dead silence as a perk because my plays style is virtually unplayable in this game
