The Wanderer
N.O.B.L.E. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Down the road there was a man walking, walking
Knapsack round his back radio talking, talking
And his blue suede shoes are covered in mud, but it no matter cause the boys on the run
Black sunglasses and a bald head too, boy never had nowhere to run when it was cold, so cold
So he hitched a ride to New Mexico, wanted to try for the big brass show

But no
He's the wanderer looking for his long lost home
He's only got one place to go
He's wandering and wondering when to go home
He's not alone, not alone, not alone
Feet been walking for a thousand years, trying to drive away those fears, but no
Well then he picked up and then he went down south
Dad said nothing and mom shut her mouth
Well, he never thought too much, just thought he could heal with his touch
For those who need help and more love
And when love came around I heard the sound
Wanderers wandering all round the town

But no, they go
He's the wanderer looking for his long lost home
He's only got one place to go
He's wandering and wondering when to go home
He's not alone, not alone, not alone
Hey, he's the wanderer looking for his long lost home
He's only got one fine place to go
He's wandering wondering when to go home
He's not alone, not alone, not alone

We wan wan wandered along, grabbed our friends and we move along
We won won won the war, grabbed our friends and we ran for the door

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to N.O.B.L.E.'s "The Wanderer" tell the story of a man who has been on the move for a long time, in search of a place that he can truly call home. The man is described as walking down the road with a knapsack on his back and a radio in hand, wearing blue suede shoes that are covered in mud. He is on the run and has nowhere to go; he has even hitched a ride to New Mexico in the hopes of making it big, but to no avail. As the chorus repeats, he is the wanderer looking for his long lost home, with only one place to go.

The lyrics also touch on the man's family history, with his father saying nothing and his mother keeping quiet. The man himself doesn't think too deeply, but believes he can heal people with his touch and help them find love. The song ends on a more positive note, with the singer suggesting that the wanderer is not alone, but rather part of a community of people who have been wandering around the town. They have fought and won a war together, and now they are grabbing their friends and running for the door.

A snowball whizzed through the air, landing perfectly on his face. Giggles and stifled laughter erupted as he fumbled to wipe it off his face before launching the snowball in his hand at her. Snowflakes drifted and fell, covering the green plains in a blanket of pure white. In a desolate land filled with frost and wrapped in coldness, the silence was broken by the family who was having the time of their lives pilling up snowmen and making snowballs.

A fair fight between the three of them somehow changed when his beloved and their child decided to team up against him, rolling up heaps of snow and throwing it all over him. The mischievous twinkle in their eyes and their smiles were so similar to each other that he could not help but laugh amusedly. The weather was harsh, yet his heart was warmed at the joy that was emitting from their faces. Spring was celebrated by many for its beauty, yet few would stop to admire the scenery during winter. The smell of crisp air, the sound of footsteps swallowed under the crunching of snow.

Winter bore witness to their love and hardships, sending its blessings with every snowflake that landed on the ground.

Oh my gosh, what a coincidence!! I just finished watching season 2 of the donghua this song comes from (it’s known as White Cat Legend in English, but this video is right; the Chinese name, Dali Si Rizhi, more accurately translates into Memoirs from the Imperial Court for Judicial Review ahaha)!

I adore this series a lot and I was really happy finally getting to season 2. And man yeah the complete difference in tone between this very cute song and most of the donghua itself is truly insane. Of course like the manhua, the donghua does have comedy and cute moments, but season 2 was truly brutal. I’d even claim it fucked me up…but like, in the best way possible. I’m still emotionally reeling from it even though a few hours have passed.

It’s truly such a good series that deserves so much more attention, so I’m really glad to see it get love here!! 🥹

EVEN IF one lives alone, with no family no spouse none but friends and they listen to these videos reading Xin Tan's picturesque words, one has it all; a family and a life they wish lasted forever~
