The N.Y.C. Peech Boys, also known as the Peech Boys or New York Citi Peech… Read Full Bio ↴The N.Y.C. Peech Boys, also known as the Peech Boys or New York Citi Peech Boys, was a band that comprised Bernard Fowler, Steven Brown, Robert Kasper, Darryl Short, Larry Levan and Michael de Benedictus.

The group formed at the Paradise Garage, being influenced by Larry Levan. They only released four 12" discs with "On a Journey" peaking at #56 in the 1983 US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

However, they are most known for their 1981 song "Don't Make Me Wait", which was one of the early hits in the New York house/garage scene, due to Levan's playing it at the Paradise Garage. "Don't Make Me Wait" was their only UK Singles Chart entry, peaking at #49 in November 1982.[2] They were signed to the West End Records label, but in 1984 they split up.

Michael, Bernard, Darryl, Booby & Steven _ The NYC Peech Boys. This music has got me reminiscing, about Garage days,and yes the other clubs (Better Days, Peter Rabbits, The Loft), and The formation of this band. I knew them (as mentioned before), my cousin Athen was instrumental in connecting them to Larry Levan & the whole Paradise Garage scene. Precious memories, Awesome music... "I looove the way you shake it, agitate it...gets me in the mood."

I remember going to Larry apt with the elevator & the peech boys were there, I think Larry had these Doberman Pincher dogs, I was in such awe & very shy..this was the early days, what great memories..

Its weird how music from this period had a mystique that you just don't get today. I guess you never knew much about the group behind it and there was a lot of experimentation with remixes, limited editions and the technology behind it all was exciting. These drum machines (Linn?) and synths (Moog?) should sound primitive by today's standards but to my ears they sound expensive, classy and sonically rich.

Ya, I agree. This is Moog, and in this case Oberheim DMX and they used Linn on some of their others such as Life. They sounded expensive because they were; the sounds of those instruments they’re still trying to emulate with recent year emulations but they’re not quite as good.

No. The mix the you should have heard was when they were creating the track, before the verses were in the mix. I remember the first time he tried it out on us. It was like "ohh =Shit what it that song" It was really sparse with that reverberating deep bass that traveled from speaker to speaker across the room. The mesc was good that night. I went back next week just to hear that song again and he played almost at closing time. Then they diluted the song with the vocals and the guitars, I guess to make it more commercial.

What you’re describing..the reverb, the trippy audio bouncing between speakers, that was the classic G vibe. But when it came to the record, it had to be recreated in a studio, which usually means more formality that often loses something. Same with adding the vocals in a studio.
