Overall Meaning

The lyrics of NDPC’s song Daylight touch upon the theme of friendship and love. The opening lines “Thought we were friends, not friends in a way that come and go” suggests a sense of betrayal and loss of trust. The lyrics then describe the idea of friendship where two people are there for each other during their toughest times and they learn and grow together. The lines “We lay in bed for hours, this is what we used to do, and ever in your darkest hours, I was right next to you” beautifully illustrate the image of two friends comforting each other in moments of vulnerability.

The lyrics then go on to suggest that it’s possible to overcome the demons within us and find happiness again by “resurrecting the sun” and experiencing “the best of love”.
