Daylight
NDPC Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Thought we were friends
Not friends in a way
That come and go
I thought we were friends
That watch each other learn and grow
We lay in bed for hours
This is what we used to do
And ever in your darkest hours
I was right next to you

We can resurrect the sun
We can have the best of love
If we busy our undone
And believe that we've overcome
The demons in our hearts
That have left us only scars
We can paralyze the dark inside
With daylight
With daylight
With daylight
With daylight

When i look back i feel stupid
You give me love

I lay and lose it
To much fear and doubt to do it
Guess what's left is just the music
You help me out
We lay in bed for hours
All i see is dark
This is what we used to do
In the shadows of the broken lies
And ever in your darkest hours
We find a spark
I was right next to you
Ignite

We can resurrect the sun
We can have the best of love
If we busy our undone
And believe that we've overcome
The demons in our hearts
That have left us only scars
We can paralyze the dark inside
With daylight
With daylight

With daylight
With daylight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of NDPC’s song Daylight touch upon the theme of friendship and love. The opening lines “Thought we were friends, not friends in a way that come and go” suggests a sense of betrayal and loss of trust. The lyrics then describe the idea of friendship where two people are there for each other during their toughest times and they learn and grow together. The lines “We lay in bed for hours, this is what we used to do, and ever in your darkest hours, I was right next to you” beautifully illustrate the image of two friends comforting each other in moments of vulnerability.

The lyrics then go on to suggest that it’s possible to overcome the demons within us and find happiness again by “resurrecting the sun” and experiencing “the best of love”. The lyrics suggest that the demons we carry with us often leave a trace of pain and scars but with self-belief, we can overcome darkness and find daylight. The line “When I look back I feel stupid” indicates the regret that the singer feels for losing sight of what was important and not fully appreciating the love the friendship offered. However, the music seems to be the only thing left as it offers comfort and support through the tough moments.

Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of hope and optimism, that with self-belief and the kindness and support of others, one can overcome the darkness within and find their way back to the light.
