When NEEDTOBREATHE’s Bear and Bo Rinehart set out to write the songs that appear on the band’s new album, The Reckoning, they felt something bigger awaited them. It wasn’t just commercial success either. The band’s last album The Outsiders hit No. 9 on Billboard’s Rock Albums chart, went Top 20 on the Top 200, saw the band sell out venues such as Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and Chicago’s House of Blues, and score an impressive number of placements in blockbuster films and numerous prime time television-shows.
With their reputation as a must-see live act built from non-stop touring, the Rinehart brothers, pastor’s sons who hail from the rural South Carolina town of Possum Kingdom, along with drummer Joe Stillwell and bass player Seth Bolt, were determined to create a statement-making album that truly captured the magic behind this genuinely appealing rock band.
Lyrically, all roads lead from the album’s title, which Bear says has several different meanings, one of them being the justification of accounts. “I like the idea that you put in all this work and at some point it comes to a peak -- that’s the reckoning time.”
What the band emerged with is a timeless-sounding album rooted in classic American rock and roll, unafraid to veer off into unexpected directions. Songs such as “Maybe They’re On To Us” address the paranoia of wondering whether people know too much about the band. “It also asks, ‘Are we still driven in the same way?’ We’re always questioning ourselves,” Bear says. Even the songs that may sound light-hearted on the surface, like “White Fences,” “Slumber,” and “Drive All Night,” explore serious themes. “’White Fences’ is about the American dream of growing up in a big house with a white picket fence, but when the dream is broken and things don’t pan out the way you planned, asking who’s going to fix it,” Bo says. “’Slumber’ is meant to be about how beauty is all around you but you just can’t see it because of the funk you’re in,” Bear says. “It speaks to something that we really care about which is giving yourself a chance.” And there’s “Drive All Night,” a galloping barnstormer that Bear sees as a statement on the false idea that one can run away from one’s problems.
With their intriguing melodies and bright choruses, the songs on The Reckoning are certain to translate in the live setting, something that is crucial to the band. “The worst thing that could happen is you get done playing and people don’t think about you again. We’ll do whatever it takes to force people to make a decision about our band, whether they love us or not. It makes for more passionate fans.”

Bursting inside us we cannot contain
Your love will surely come find us
Like blazing wild fires singing Your name
God of mercy sweet love of mine
I have surrendered to Your design
May this offering stretch across the skies
Your love is like radiant diamonds
Bursting inside us we cannot contain
Your love will surely come find us
Like blazing wild fires singing Your name
God of mercy sweet love of mine
I have surrendered to Your design
May this offering stretch across the skies
And these Halleluiahs be multiplied
(Multiplied)
(Oh multiplied)
God of mercy sweet love of mine
I have surrendered to Your design
May this offering stretch across the skies
And these Halleluiahs be multiplied
These Halleluiahs be multiplied
(Your love is like radiant diamonds)
(Bursting inside us we cannot contain)
(Your love will surely come find us)
Like blazing wild fires singing Your name

First time heard this song at the convenience store near my campus, I was at my lowest phase in my journey from teen to young adult and lost my way of what was important. I come from a country where Christianity is not a dominant religion so any song about Jesus and Christianity related is something you can only hear in the church or in the Christian music store, never in public space.
So there i was, sitting in the convenience store, speaking in my mind, asking God for the first time in a long time, while looking outside the window and this song started to play. first i thought the melody was not so bad until it played to the chorus.
"God of mercy
Sweet love of mine
I have surrendered to your design
may this offering stretch across the sky
And these hallelujahs be multiplied"
this song hit hard to my heart, especially in the "i have surrendered to your design" part. at first i couldnt believe that they played this Christian song in the public space out of nowhere, tried to check this song on the google to see if i misheard the lyrics or not while holding my tears. and the rest is history.
Jesus touched me in a weirdly-amazing-wonderful way and saved my life in 2015, at the local convenience store, in an Islamic dominant country.
P.S : after that, i came to that exact convenience store for a several more times, never heard this song played again

Theology, theology, theology. Reading the Bible cover to cover and knowing every single verse from memory means nothing if you don't live what's written.
Knowing how to interpret the Bibles literary texts and understanding the historical significance aka hermeneutics means nothing if you don't have a relationship with the Author. When you know the Author, the way you perceive what your reading is transformed. When the Holy Spirit not only lives inside of you but has monopoly of you and you are full of Him, he reveals things that 30 years of theological studies would never tell you. Why? Because he's the source, the inspiration of those written words. Man has a limited capability and believes he can understand and interpret without the need for God.
If I ask many people to name the characters in a movie, Avengers for example, they can easily do so. Now tell who directed the movie? Not everyone knows.
In the same way Christians know the "actors" in the Bible but do not know the "Director" of the Bible, God.
Not once did you mention Jesus Christ, who SHOULD be the center of everything. The church today isn't christocentric because they have forgotten who God is and what God has done. Honestly if you leave the presence of God, if you were a "Christian" and then left church, left everything you believed behind, you were truly NEVER a Christian.
Jesus himself said, "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32 NIV) If you left Jesus behind it's because you were never truly set free from the Truth. The truth of the gospel.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16 NIV)
It doesn't take 30 years of theology to know that. It takes the true acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. It takes the surrendering of all your problems and the acceptance that He's in control to have your life changed.
Your life was never truly changed if you are no longer in His presence. For that I lament.

He bent his ear and heard my cry in county jail... going crazy with guilt n shame. He since lifted me up outta that pit of miry clay, set my foot on solid ground, steadied my foot as I walk along. God bless us everyone.

A heart changed by God is indeed a Multiplier of divine light in us…it ignites us into blazing fires of gratitude and appreciation and LOVE of our Father In Heaven, who is so magically GOOD he forgives all of us as He enables us to look into his heart for us and ‘become’ so much more than we once were without Him…I know you understand this beautiful magic—like the lesson of the fishes and loaves— of ‘MULTIPLIED’ MERRY CHRISTMAS Brother ✨❤✨

I'm not the most perfect Christian...im anything BUT that...Yet I Always have and always will Thank God and recognise his blessings.. these hallelujah be multiplied indeed.
Luke Skytrotter
I'm not a perfect Christian either. However, I know God well enough that he loves us all very much. He wants us to come as we are. That's what God's grace is. That is his crazy and wonderful love for us. We cannot earn his love nor do we deserve it but he loves us anyway.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
[John 3:16] "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
[John 3:17] "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved."

We'll never be perfect but we are to strive for godly lives, repentant lives, behavior.... that's stated all through the New Testament.

God doesn't expect you or me to be perfect. That's why His son died, for every sinner.
