Feuerstein endured a hardship-filled childhood in which his parents divorced, his mother's boyfriend physically abused him, and his mother eventually killed herself. Music was his escape, and he began recording songs on a karaoke machine, with instrumentals on one microphone and his raps in the other. Placing second in a nationwide Fine Arts Festival rap competition in 2008, and first in Michigan the following year, he independently released a debut album, Moments, in 2010. The album attracted the attention of Xist Music, which signed him to a recording deal in 2012, by which time Feuerstein had taken on the stage name NF. The label announced the release of an EP that same year, but it never appeared, and NF and Xist parted ways. NF spent the next two years looking for a label and working with local producer Tommee Profitt in his studio; they came up with the song "Wake Up," which convinced Capitol Christian Music Group to sign him. CMG released a six-song (including a Manny Marroquin remix of "Wake Up") self-titled EP late in the summer of 2014. His debut album, Mansion, was released in early 2015 and reached number 62 on the Billboard 200 while topping the Christian Albums chart. The aptly titled Therapy Session followed in 2016 and also topped the Christian Albums chart with its raw emotions and honest lyrics. The following Summer saw the release of the singles "Outro" and "Green Lights", in anticipation of the arrival of his third studio long player, Perception, which dropped later that October. NF achieved mainstream popularity in 2017 with Perception; the album charted at number one in the United States and was certified platinum, while its third single, "Let You Down", reached number twelve on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and was a top-ten hit internationally. He achieved similar commercial success with his follow-up The Search (2019). Feuerstein's most recent album, Hope, released on April 7, 2023, had commercial success and peaked at number 2 on the US Billboard 200.

I found this song the same day I chose to end it all. 85 hour weeks taking care of my girlfriend and 2 kids that aren't even mine. Sitting in my car at 4am blasting music in a dirt lot 50 miles from anyone else and this song randomly came on. I put it on repeat like 15 times. And I was able to make it home with breakfast for all of us. And I've been ok ever since. I wish I could thank NF in person. He truly saved my life. @@caseohcarbs I'm a little better each day. I love both of my children. I love my whole family. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to show concern for me and my problems. I know they're just mine to deal with. But I have nobody to talk to. I can't tell my family that through everything they've given me and everything I've shown in return I'm still depressed. I still feel like a failure. My only vice is getting lost in music to try to find songs that make the abyss a little less of a strange place. And hopefully one day I can look around and finally see everything in the brightness and the future will seem less like a blinding light and more of a reflection of what the good memories and tough struggles have carved out. I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to say that this song saved a lot of lives. Because it definitely saved mine. I was at a very dark point in life when I discovered NF and this song when I first heard it, was extremely relatable and I just broke down. “There’s millions of us just like you” and I didn’t feel so alone anymore. This is my favorite NF song and my favorite song I’ve ever heard.

I honestly wish I had an artist like this in my teen years. I'm 36 now, found NF a few years ago, and still struggling with things as an adult, that I was as a Teen. Having an artist like this would have deff helped me a lot when I was younger and more self destructive. I went to a concert last year in TN. This was one of his final pieces before the night ended. I will never forget how it felt, standing alongside hundreds of others, arms raised and pointing to the stage, all singing these words together. I can't even describe it.

It is electric. Was working stage front for his show at Merriweather and the crowd energy was one of my favorite parts of the whole thing. Right as he starts singing the final chorus, they had some cryo cannons blast confetti into the air and the crowd went absolutely nuts, but in a good way. Literally went from having no idea who NF was to being a huge fan because of the experience.

i've never heard a song so relatable to the current situation i'm in. i've said this a lot about other songs but i think this one's my final answer. i try to find love, but get destroyed for it. NF just doesn't miss. i dont know how he does it, but i'm so grateful that i was blessed to find this so i can just climb out of the terrible hole i'm buried in. how he delivers the message is legendary. catching the viewer with emotional music but then ramping it up after they've let out their sadness so it can quickly fill with determination, will, pressure to move forward. NF is a very good man, i just really hope i can get out of this pit, at the least with the help of NF. i am, again, very grateful supportive and motivational people like NF exist. God bless you, NF.
