at 0:00 (start) you can see the safety gate stuck on the roof of the bus. The bus was clearly over and this video shows what happens when you bring a bus to a train fight. The silver-lining is that no-one lost their lives. This held the potential to be very deadly.

El Jefe Scientist When I was a school bus driver in training, my trainer told me that if a railroad crossing gate fell on my roof, not to move, less I damage the gate. The thing about commercial drivers is they're always caught between a rock and a hard place. If you stay, you risk getting hit by a train, if you move, you risk damaging the gate, both of which do equal damage to your record. Two choices: have "collided with another vehicle" or "damaged company property / equipment" put on your record.

I'd pick the latter - better to prevent a major collision, which could possibly kill people, let alone cause a derailment or completely wreck the bus.
The gates are meant to break off.

This is sad, but not uncommon. I use NJIT. While going to work. a bus driver was talking on their cellphone for 45 minutes! When getting of at my stop she was still on the phone talking and laughing with her family member!

omg, Did you take a video? If you see that again, take a video with your phone, and send it to NJT. Make sure to either get the driver's name, or at least get the bus number, route and date/time.
That is freaking unacceptable ...
Buses are one of the safest modes of transportation, safer than other smaller cars, but that's no excuse to sit back and relax behind the wheel!

Here's an idea: How about finding out the events leading up to this crash BEFORE you point fingers. Trainfan1055 I don't think you understand a train is a machine it cant stop in-time just because a bus is on the tracks it is not the Engineer's fault this happens everywhere we're Car's ,busses, trucks etc don't fully understand what it means to be behind a crossing gate to avoid a collision In the near future I am going to become a locomotive Engineer and,one of the most scarest situations is this The Engineer did his job it's the bus driver who failed therefore as you saw in the video the The NJT loco Engineer gave that bus driver a fair warning knowing the train could not stop. come on its very Simple.

Trainfan1055 you can clearly see at 0:00 to 0:01 the NJT bus is sitting throught the Crossing gate that the gate can can even come down commonsense would be to be behind the Crossing gate to avoid a serious collision and yet people say Commonsense is not Common which will get people killed.

noforatu I hope you understand that buses have to stop at the crossing and look both ways before crossing that tracks. I also hope you know that it's usually very difficult to see down the tracks most of the time unless you pull up. Technically, you're supposed to stop 15 to 50ft from the tracks, but in all honesty, I think stopping at the crossing before proceeding is pointless if you can't see down the tracks anyway. I imagine the driver pulled up because there's no way in this universe you can see down the tracks even at 15ft. I think this problem could be solved with mirrors to aid the driver.
