The group were initially known as Pledis Boys, after their unofficial promotions with their seniors, Son Dambi and After School for their Happy Pledis 2012 “Love Letter” single. They also appeared on stage with them promoting the song "Love Letter". They made an unofficial first appearance on 29 December 2011 at the 2011 SBS Gayo Daejun, performing the 'shuffle' dance with labelmates After School. They made their first CF with After School's Lizzy.
On January 16, 2012, Pledis Entertainment revealed NU'EST's leader, JR. The next day they revealed two new members, Minhyun and Aron. And on January 19, they finally introduced the entire group by revealing the identity of their final two members, Baekho and Ren.
The music video for "Face" was released on March 15, 2012. NU'EST made their broadcast debut on the same day on Mnet's M! Countdown where they performed "I'm Sorry", a b-side track from their debut single album, and the title track "Face".
On July 9, 2014, NU'EST released their first full album, "Re:Birth", with the lead single "Good Bye Bye". They made their Japanese debut on November 5, with the single "Shalala Ring".
JR, Baekho, Minhyun, and Ren participated in the reality television series Produce 101 Season 2 during the first half of 2017. During their appearance on the show, previously released albums, rose on South Korean album charts, reflecting a sudden surge in popularity of the group. After the final episode of Produce aired, NU'EST's previous releases shot back up on music charts and topped the Gaon Chart. Minhyun ranked within the top 11, earning a position in the temporary boy group Wanna One, and he promoted exclusively with them for 1.5 years. The remaining members announced they would be promoting as NU'EST W until Minhyun's return. Due to the group's sudden surge in popularity, they (as NU'EST W) returned to music shows to promote their single "Hello" (first released in 2013), and ranked number 11 on Inkigayo.
On April 19, 2021, the group released their second studio album, "Romanticize", with the lead single "Inside Out". The album topped Hanteo's weekly album sales chart and earned two crowns on the Gaon Music Chart. The lead single also went on to score wins on M! Countdown, Music Bank, Show! Music Core, and Inkigayo, earning the group its second music show grand slam since their single "Love Me" in 2019. Following the success of their second album, the group spent the rest of 2021 mostly working on their solo projects.
On February, 28, 2022, it was announced that the group's exclusive contract with Pledis Entertainment will end on March 14. It was also announced that members Aron, JR and Ren will leave the agency at the conclusion of their contract, while Baekho and Minhyun opted to renew. With the news of their contract expiring, the group confirmed their disbandment through handwritten letters to their fans, announcing their decision to pursue individual projects. A final compilation album, "Needle & Bubble", was released on March 15 to mark the group's 10-year anniversary before officially disbanding, with the new song "Again" ("다시, 봄) as the title track.

NU'EST Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
어디서 뭐 하는지 걱정되니까
Tell me baby where you at
여보세요 (call me baby, I be there
Wherever you are, I be there)
여보세요 (pick up the phone, girl
'Cause I gotta be there)
Baby, I can't let you go (밥은 먹었니)
I only think about you girl
What would I be without you, girl (어디서 뭐 하는지)
Don't tell me lies
Don't say goodbye
I just wanna let you know (왜 아무말 못하니)
I only think about you, girl
What would I be without you, girl
What would I be without you, girl
여보세요
The song "여보세요" by NU'EST is a romantic pop ballad that expresses the emotions of a person who misses their loved one and is concerned where they might be and what they might be doing. The lyrics project the insecurity and anxiousness that can creep up when two people in a relationship are apart. The phrase "여보세요" translates to "hello," but in the context of the song, it conveys a sense of yearning and desperation.
The verses depict different scenarios that might cause the singer to worry or imagine the worst-case scenarios. He perceives that the traffic might delay his lover, the battery of her phone might die, or it might rain. The chorus reiterates how he wishes to hear her voice and wants to know where she is. The second half of the song is a confession of love in which the singer expresses the extent of his feelings and regrets his cowardice in the past.
One interesting fact about the song is that it was contributed by Bumzu, the same producer behind many of GFriend and Seventeen's chart-topping songs. Another interesting fact is that the title of the song was inspired by the phrase that Koreans commonly use to answer the phone. Lastly, the music video for "여보세요" was filmed on location in Prague, the Czech Republic.

EDIT (171011): icb y'all got this to 1.1k upvotes! They just released their new Where You At MV (but I'm sure you already know that), so please give the MV on their official channel lots of love, too! Thanks~
JR, Baekho, Ren - welcome back! Though it still feels weird to call you by your stage names after such a long time, thank you for working hard these last few months in order protect the name of NU'EST. It was a tough decision to go on Produce 101, and you suffered much even to the last moments of the live broadcast.
Minhyun - Please don't feel sorry about being the only member to make it into Wanna One. I know it's going to be hard from now on, but I know you'll do well. Protect the name of Nation's Center that you earned from the Never performance, and help protect NU'EST from where you are. We'll wait patiently for your return to NU'EST and welcome you with open arms.
Aron - I don't know what's happening on your end, but thank you for protecting NU'EST while the kids were on Produce 101.
You've all suffered a lot over the last 5 years, so get some rest for now. We'll take care of making you #1.
