They disbanded in 2002 when it was announced that bassist Nakao was leaving the band, and the former members moved on to other projects - Mukai and Inazawa formed Zazen Boys. Tabuchi formed Toddle shortly after Number Girl's breakup and joined bloodthirsty butchers as an official member after being a guest guitarist for a number of shows throughout their Kouya Ni Okeru tour in early 2003. Nakao joined Spiral Chord after their original bassist left, and shortly after formed Sloth Love Chunks.
The band got back together in 2019 and release their first new song since their disbandment, "排水管" ("Drainpipe"). During this reunion period, Number Girl played a number of shows from 2019 to until their eventual second disbandment on December 11, 2022.

La letra, por lo menos bajo mi interpretación es muy triste. Habla de aislamiento por miedo a relacionarse y ser lastimado ("Los jóvenes a los que no les gusta el calor huyen a lugares fríos") el vídeo de la canción también ayuda a entender ese sentimiento titubeante y de incertidumbre al relacionarse. Este tipo de sentimientos y emociones son muy comunes en Japón, cuya cultura se basa en códigos de honor y mantener el orgullo. Al final nos quedamos solos, no porque otros no nos quieran, sino por miedo. Miedo de que nos hieran el ego aunque sepamos que temporalmente seremos felices con una persona pero sabiendo que con el tiempo, las cosas inevitablemente cambiarán así que sabiendo esto, mejor se evita esto desde el vamos. Es mi canción favorita del grupo.
Hace tiempo me tomé la libertad de traducir la canción al español de una manera no tan literal y dándole un poco más de sentido sin sacrificar mucho de la letra original. Más o menos quedó así (acepto con gusto cualquier tipo de corrección por supuesto, tomo en cuenta que traducir siempre del japonés es muy complejo).
