Get Lucky
NYPC Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Gasoline, lemonade in the latest cream
Wash on wax off to a different scheme.
Laminate your mind as though you need it
Psycho killer says it makes your shadow seem grey.
Why you late in this race
It's like delay over your face
It's like you made no way
It's like you made ok.

I'm gonna im gonna get free this time
I'm gonna im gonna give you all my love
I'm gonna get free this time
I'm gonna im gonna give you all my love
I'm gonna... im gonna... im gonna give gonna give you all my love i'm gonna give gonna give u all my love
I'm gonna give im gonna give u all my love

I'm gonna hang around and watch when you get shot in flames
I'll let you wear my cape
Recycle this if you're making the man

Get a big red slap from his big white hands
Recycle this if you're breaking the ban let your girlfriend do what your boyfriend can't

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of NYPC's song "Get Lucky" seemingly invite the listener to interpret them in their own way, but upon closer inspection, they become a commentary on societal and cultural values. The references to "gasoline, lemonade in the latest cream," and "wash on wax off to a different scheme" could be interpreted as a critique of consumerism and how people are sold a perception of happiness through possessions. This idea is furthered by the mention of "recycling" and "breaking the ban," suggesting a desire to rebel against the established systems and create a new order.

The line "laminate your mind as though you need it" can be seen as a warning against the desire to conform and fit in, while the reference to the "psycho killer" highlights the darker side of this conformity. The notion of being "late in this race" and making "no way" implies a sense of stagnation or being stuck, while still giving the sense that it's never too late to break free and achieve one's goals.

The repetitive refrain of "I'm gonna get free this time, I'm gonna give you all my love" speaks to the human desire for freedom and connection, but also suggests a sense of determination and urgency in achieving them. Overall, this song invites listeners to consider their own values and encourages them to pursue their own individual path rather than conforming to societal pressures.

Still a great album in 2022

Agreed that this is truely an uninspiring video. Initially having watched it once, I discounted the song completely, yet still bought the CD cuz I loved "Ice Cream" and "The Bomb." Having listened to the cd endlessly, turns out this is my favorite track. Love the whole early 80's New Wave vibe these guys have. I totally wanna whip out a playlist with The Waitresses, Blondie, The Motels, and NYPC.

goblinb

They would fit right into that playlist. Add the Bush Tetras to that list too.

2006 this is from?! I had it on a apple playlist, I purchased the whole album just for this track using an iTunes gift card 🎫
Then forgot all about it for years until I heard Lou Hayter’s new song at the weekend, brave strong synth pop 💪🏼🎤🎹
