You seem to know me in the clearest way
I want to run and hide, keep you from finding me
You shouldn't see, what is my mystery
But with the timing right
It could be paradise
To do this now
I was just fine, yes I was fine I thought
I didn't think that I would get so lost
To have and not to hold and to pretend I'm cold
It is a lie because I melt every time
And with the timing right
It could be paradise
To do this now
Would not be right
So stay away from me
You're better off to stay as far from lovin' me
Just stay a fantasy
In the dark, in the night and in my dreams
And with the timing right
It could be paradise
To do this now
Would not be right
So stay away from me
Stay away from me
So stay away from me
You're better off to stay as far from lovin' me
Just stay a fantasy
In the dark, in the night and in my dreams
So stay away from me
You're better off to stay as far from lovin' me
So stay a fantasy
In the dark, in the night and in my dreams
So stay away from me
You're better off to stay as far from lovin' me
Just stay a fantasy
In the dark, in the night
In the dark, in the night
And in my dreams
The lyrics of Nadia Ali's song, "Fantasy," describe the internal struggle of the singer regarding a complicated relationship. The song's subject seems to be struggling with wanting the relationship to succeed while simultaneously wanting to keep the mystery to themselves. The opening lines of the song, "How do you always know what I will say?/ You seem to know me in the clearest way," suggest that the person the singer is talking to is significant to them and understands them intimately. However, the next few lines present a contrast to this close relationship. The singer goes on to say, "I want to run and hide, keep you from finding me/ You shouldn't see what is my mystery." Here the singer is trying to protect their inner self and not let the other person see them through and through.
The chorus, "And with the timing right/ it could be paradise/ To do this now/ would not be right," highlights the conflict. The singer recognizes that their relationship could be "paradise," but they also believe it's not the right time. The second verse goes on to say, "I was just fine, yes I was fine I thought/ I didn't think I would get so lost/ To have and not to hold and to pretend I'm cold/ It is a lie because I melt every time." Here the singer is saying that they didn't think they would get so invested in their relationship and now struggle with keeping an emotional distance.
The song continues with the singer acknowledging that pursuing the relationship would not be good for either of them, and it would be best for the other person to stay away from them. The final lines repeat the refrain to emphasize that the person the singer is talking to should not pursue them, but can stay a "fantasy" in their dreams.
