Mother
Nadia Kazmi Lyrics

I-I shot my brother down
I wanna say I did it for the struggle
But I-I took his life
As he lay in the night
So as the green grass grows brown-own
And the war grows all around
You, disappear from me
'Cause I have become my mother's enemy
It's me, it's me
Mother, I am a killer
I-I turned the blue skies to black
I wanna say I didn't see the sky burning bright
I poured the gas, I lit the light
So as the green grass grows brown-own
And the war grows all around
You, disappear from me
Mama, it should come as no surprise
'Cause I have become my mother's enemy
It's me, it's me
Mother, you laid the green grass down
So I could walk around
Mother, you painted skies of blue
So I could see true
Let the sun shine through
Turn the black sky blue
Forgive me like you always do
You, disappear from me
Mama, it should come as no surprise
'Cause I, have become my mother's enemy
It's me, it's me
You, disappear from me
Mama, it should come as no surprise
I, have become my mother's enemy
It's me, it's me
The song "Mother" by Nadia Kazmi is a haunting and introspective piece about self-realization and grappling with one's past. The lyrics tell a story of a person who has committed a horrible act, specifically the murder of their own brother. The line "Mother, I am a killer" immediately sets a stark and somber tone, as the singer confesses their guilt to their mother. The next lines reveal that the murder was committed during a time of struggle, but the singer doubts their own motives for taking someone's life.
As the song progresses, the singer reflects on their own identity and how they have become their own mother's enemy. The line "I turned the blue skies to black" suggests that they have caused chaos and destruction, perhaps even erasing the positive influence their mother may have had on them. However, the singer acknowledges their mother's sacrifices and how she has always been there to forgive them, even in the face of unspeakable evil.
The chorus effectively captures the emotional turmoil of the song, as the mother disappears from the singer's life. The repetition of "It's me, it's me" emphasizes the sense of personal responsibility and the weight of the singer's actions on their conscience.
Overall, "Mother" is a powerful and introspective song that dives deep into the psyche of a person who has committed a heinous act. It grapples with themes of guilt, identity, and self-realization, while also highlighting the unconditional love and forgiveness that a mother can offer.
