Heart to ride
Nadia Reid Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I keep hearing you on the radio
Take it as some sort of sign, you know
You were getting sun-kissed on the West Coast
No longer anyone's, anybody's to own

There's a block up in the road ahead
Trying to be good for my grandmother, you said
We are only young and young is what we are
Such a long, long way back, two lucky stars

Higher and higher and higher we go
Better for knowing now that people always grow
You have the heart to ride, so babe, ride it slow
Coming into season, coming into season with you

I've been thinking that I would like to roll with you
Maybe back drinking, I would like to grow with you
Who knew that love could feel this golden
Coming into season, oh my heart is knowing

Higher and higher and higher we go
Better for knowing now that people always grow
You have the heart to ride, so baby, ride it slow
Coming into season, coming into season with you

You are our girl
Come on over, take it out
You are our girl
Come on over, take it out
You are our girl
Come on over, take it out

You are our girl
Come on over, take it out on me

Overall Meaning

In Nadia Reid's song "Heart to Ride," there seem to be multiple ideas present in the lyrics. The opening line of the song, "I keep hearing you on the radio," seems to bring forth an image of nostalgia, and a reflection of a past relationship. The singer then states that she takes this occurrence as a sign of some sort, possibly referencing the idea that music can be some sort of harbinger or sign of events to come. As the song progresses, Nadia describes a block up in the road ahead, and how she's trying to be good for her grandmother. This could mean that the singer is reflecting on her life choices and is trying to do better for herself and her family.

The chorus of the song repeats the lines "Higher and higher and higher we go, better for knowing now that people always grow. You have the heart to ride, so babe, ride it slow. Coming into season, coming into season with you." This phrase seems to mean that as the singer grows along with the person she's addressing in the song, there will be highs and lows, but they will ultimately lead to an overall growth and bettering of oneself. The idea of coming into one's season with someone also seems to indicate the idea of growth and maturity for oneself and within a relationship.
