God's Cold Hands
Nails Lyrics

Innocence lost, gross and disposed
Buried alive in a grave called life
God's Cold Hands
Starved in the arms of nothing
Pray for peace to a god deceased
God will die with me
The lyrics to Nails's song God's Cold Hands seem to explore the concept of death and the fear and hopelessness that can accompany it. The first two lines describe death occurring in a world below, suggesting perhaps an afterlife or underworld where death takes place. The next line, "Innocence lost, gross and disposed" suggests perhaps that death is the ultimate loss of innocence, and that it is a dirty, unclean process.
The line "Buried alive in a grave called life" is a powerful image, suggesting that life itself can sometimes feel like a kind of living death, trapping people in a cycle of monotony and pain. The repetition of the phrase "God's Cold Hands" throughout the song suggests that death is seen as something controlled by a higher power, and that it is a cold and unfeeling force.
The second stanza continues this exploration of the fear and hopelessness of death, with the line "Starved in the arms of nothing" suggesting a feeling of emptiness and isolation. The line "Cower in fear of what death will bring" speaks to the deep-rooted fear that many people have of the unknown and the inevitability of death. The final line, "God will die with me," is a powerful statement that suggests that even the idea of a higher power may be ultimately fleeting and meaningless in the face of death.
