Only Love
Nana Mouskouri Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Only love can make a moment last.
You were there
And all the world was young
And all its songs unsung,
And I remember you then,
When love was all,
All you were living for,
Only then I felt my heart was free,
I was part of you and you were all of me.
Warm were the days and the nights of those years,
Painted in colors to outshine the sun.
All of the words and the dreams and the tears
Live in my remembrance.
Only love can make a memory,
Only love can make that moment last,
Life was new
There was a rage to live,
Each day a page to live,
And I remember you then,
When love was all,
All you were living for,
And how you gave that love to me.
Only then I knew my heart was free,
I was part of you and you were all of me.
The lyrics to Nana Mouskouri's song Only Love are a beautiful testament to the power of love and the memories it can create. The song speaks to the idea that only love can truly make a memory and make a moment last. The singer reminisces about a time when they were with someone they loved, and the world seemed young and full of possibilities. They recall how all the songs of the world were yet to be sung and how they remember that person and that time fondly.
The lyrics speak to the way that love can make us feel free and whole, as if we are part of each other. The memories of that time are painted in colors that outshine the sun, and everything we said, dreamed, and felt is etched in our memory. The lyrics suggest a deep sense of longing to return to that time and be with that person again, perhaps to recapture that sense of love and freedom they once felt.

One of my father's favorite songs and artist. Our childhood home was filled with Nana's magical voice. Then I played it often while he was in the last stage of his life. Now I play it at his final resting place...considering it my and my wonderful father's song. Thank you Nana for being so worthy of singing this song to the best father any daughter could hope and wish for.
