Lady Bird
Nancy Sinatra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been where the eagle flies
Rode his wings 'cross autumn skies
Kissed the sun, touched the moon
But he left me much too soon
His lady bird
He left his lady bird

Lady bird come on down
I'm here waiting on the ground
Lady bird I'll treat you good
Aw, lady bird I wish you would
You lady bird
Pretty lady bird

Lightning flashed across the sky
The night he taught me how to fly
The sun came up and then I found
Too soon he let his lady down
His lady bird
I'm his lady bird

Lady bird come on down
I'm here waiting on the ground
Lady bird I'll treat you good
Aw, lady bird I wish you would
You lady bird
Pretty lady bird

Winter lives in my heart
In the times we're apart
Summer sings a song or two
When he says "I love you true"
My lady bird
Yeah, I'm his lady bird

Lady bird come on down
I'm here waiting on the ground
Lady bird I'll treat you good
Aw, lady bird I wish you would
You lady bird
Pretty lady bird (I'm your lady bird)

You're a lady bird (Yes, I'm a lady bird)
You're too much you little bird

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood's song "Lady Bird" are poetic and emotional, describing a woman who has experienced love and loss. In the opening lines, the singer says she has been "where the eagle flies" and "kissed the sun, touched the moon," suggesting a life of adventure and excitement. However, she then reveals that the man who gave her these experiences, her "eagle," left her too soon. The repetition of the phrase "his lady bird" throughout the song reinforces the singer's close connection to this man and her sense of loss at his departure.

In the chorus, the singer addresses the titular "Lady Bird," asking her to come down to the ground where the singer is waiting. She promises to treat Lady Bird well and expresses her wish that Lady Bird would stay with her. The song's second verse describes a moment of bonding between the singer and her lover, as he teaches her how to fly and they share a moment of intimacy. However, this intimacy is short-lived, as he eventually leaves her again. The final verse sums up the singer's emotions, alternating between sadness and hope as she describes the seasons in her heart and her continued attachment to her "eagle."

@anthony-costa

It was a cold day in France, my friend died at 20 years old.
It was a small village near Annecy, a month ago, the last time I saw him, he put this music on his phone.
The day we made the funeral was a stormy and windy day. His mother put this music in the silent village, and we cried for him. I can't describe in english this feeling, neither in french.
I love you G.
