ThereÂ's never gonna be
ThereÂ's no one in this world needs me
ThereÂ's never gonna be
Yet sometimes in my dreams I hear
Sundown, I miss you sundown
Come on, come on, come on, come on back to me
Come on, come on, come on, come on back to me
I need you sundown, I need you sundown
ThereÂ's no hands ever reached for me
ThereÂ's never gonna be
ThereÂ's no one meant for lonely me
ThereÂ's never gonna be
Yet sometimes in my dreams I hear
Sundown, I miss you sundown
Sundown, I want you sundown
Come on, come on, come on, come on back to me
Come on, come on, come on, come on back to me
I love you sundown
I love you sundown
I love you sundown
The lyrics of Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood's song "Sundown Sundown" carry a deep sense of sadness and loneliness. The singer sings about the absence of anyone in the world for them, and how there never will be anyone. This sense of isolation is likely what prompts the singer to say "sundown, I miss you sundown" and "sundown, I need you sundown" in their dreams. Sundown is not necessarily a physical person, but it serves as a symbol for the singer's desire to have someone in their life. The repetition of "come on back to me" reinforces this desire for connection and the need for something or someone to fill the emptiness in their life.
The lyrics also express a feeling of resignation, as if the singer has given up hope of ever finding someone. The lines "there's no hands ever reached for me" and "there's no one meant for lonely me" emphasize this sense of defeat. The repetition of "there's never gonna be" further reinforces the idea that the singer has accepted their loneliness as a fact of life.
Overall, "Sundown Sundown" is a poignant and melancholic song that speaks to the universal desire for human connection, and the pain of living without it.
