These Boots Are Made For Walking
Nancy Sinatra (OST Full Metal Jacket) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You keep saying you got something for me
Something you call love but confess
You've been a'messin' where you shouldn't 've been a'messin'
And now someone else is getting all your best

These boots are made for walking
And that's just what they'll do
One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you

You keep lyin' when you oughta be truthin'
You keep losing when you oughta not bet
You keep samin' when you oughta be a'changin'
Now what's right is right but you ain't been right yet

These boots are made for walking
And that's just what they'll do
One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you

You keep playing where you shouldn't be playing
And you keep thinking that you'll never get burnt (HAH)
I just found me a brand new box of matches (YEAH)
And what he knows you ain't had time to learn
These boots are made for walking,
And that's just what they'll do
One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you

Are you ready, boots? Start walkin'

Overall Meaning

The song "These Boots Are Made for Walking" by Nancy Sinatra was released in 1966 and quickly became a hit. The lyrics are about a woman who is tired of her partner's infidelity and lack of honesty. She confronts him and lets him know that she's had enough of his lies and deception. The woman in the song is strong-willed and determined to take control of the situation.

The first line of the song, "you keep saying you got something for me," establishes the confrontational tone of the song. The woman is calling out her partner for his dishonesty and infidelity. The line "something you call love but confess" implies that the woman doubts the authenticity of her partner's love. She accuses him of "messin' where you shouldn't've been a'messin'," which suggests that he's been unfaithful.

The chorus of the song, "these boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do. One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you," is a clear indication that the woman is taking control of the situation. The boots represent the woman's strength and her determination to take care of herself.

The second verse of the song continues to call out the partner's dishonesty and poor choices. The woman accuses him of "lying when you oughta be truthin'," and playing where he shouldn't be playing. She's reached her breaking point and is taking control by threatening to walk all over him with her boots.

Overall, "These Boots Are Made for Walking" is a powerful feminist anthem that celebrates a woman's strength and independence.

Exactly. Nancy knows how to draw attention to her beauty without showing too much skin or being indecent. It was all in the movement and postures.

Jessica showed too much skin and brought attention away from her boots which were the entire focus of the song.

Basically...

Nancy=sexy classy lady who might want a fun night out. Maybe go on a nice date.

Jessica=sexy whorish cowgirl playing hard to get with no real intentions of doing anything. Simply bustin mens balls for fun.

You tell me which sounds like the better person.

Obviously this song is iconic, but I feel like not enough people talk about just what a good song it is. The production is great, I mean that bass or banjo or whatever it is at the beginning is SO kickass it’s almost punk rock

@kerrystewart3857

Have you ever listened to nouvelle. French girl singing all the punk in a different style. Worth a listen. She's good ❤

@ceilconstante640

The Song was written and produced by Lee Hazelwood. Look up the other songs he did with Nancy Sanatra. One Velvet morning 1967 and Summer Wine are really good!

@donpierson

The double bass guitar that you hear prominently through the song with the walking bass line was played by Chuck Berghofer. The drums were played by legendary session musician Hal Blaine
