Nandini has been trained in the field of music since childhood. Her mother was a professional carnatic vocalist (disciple of Padma Bhushan Shri. B. Rajam Iyer), and she used to also played Hindustani music on the sitar.
Nandini started playing the veena (by herself and would play whatever she heard). And this was at an age of 3 1/2 yrs, and she gave her first public performance at the age of 5. At the same time, she also learnt sitar from her mother. Nandini's uncle influenced her with rock, blues and jazz.
She then learnt to play the guitar from her uncle at the age of 12 for just 1 month and the rest was picked up on her own and played by ear.
Nandini's entire musical learning was driven by an inner passion that seemed to originate from an inner consciousness that did not belong to this lifetime. As a child, she had a knack for playing instruments.
Magnasound wanted to do Mahmood Khan's ‘Panah’ with various artistes. After auditioning around 35 singers, the producer decided to do the album with Nandini and he gave up the idea of having various artists.
With Trilok Gurtu, 'Remembrance' was her second collaboration, the first one being 'The Beat of Love'. They sat together with Ronu Majumdar for the composing sessions and she did 3 songs in that album.
Nandini's first hit the musical limelight with Vidyasagar's "I Love you" hit number sung for the Ajith starrer "Uyirodu Uyiraga". Then came "Africa Kaatupuli" (Cheete ki chaal liye) for Kamal Haasan's Aalavandhaan / Abhay.
She now sings with several bands, and also with established composers in Bollywood.

The song "Duniya" by Nandini Srikar is a reflection on how we often measure our lives and success by external factors rather than our own personal happiness. The opening lyrics encourage the listener to take stock of their life and assess what they have gained and lost in comparison. The chorus emphasizes that the world is just the world, it's not our whole life and that we should look inside ourselves for happiness. The song also critiques the idea of buying happiness with money and material possessions as the singer concludes that even though they may have bought the world, they still cannot find true happiness.
The second verse delves deeper into the idea of living for oneself and not living for society's expectations. The singer is dissatisfied even though they have everything they thought they wanted and is now questioning where they went wrong. The bridge emphasizes the importance of self-reflection and introspection, as it is important to understand one's own motivations in life to find true happiness. The final verse further emphasizes the theme of introspection by suggesting that true happiness comes from within and not from material possessions. Overall, the song encourages the listener to look inside themselves for happiness and not to measure worth by external factors.

You stand at the doors of death
Count the tally of your life
What have you lost, what have you gained?
How did you squander the time you had?
This, this, that and there
You bought the world with money
But you couldn't buy respect and love
You have everything but are not happy
Now, think about where you went wrong
The world is just the world
This is not your life

Someone said in your punch
Your happiness is embedded
You went out to catch it
And ended up roaming round and round, throughout your life.
The world is just the world
This is not your life
