I'll be so blue thinking about you
Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree
Won't mean a thing if you're not here with me
I'll have a blue Christmas, that's certain
And when that blue heartache starts hurtin'
You'll be doin' all right with your Christmas of white
I'll have a blue Christmas without you
I'll be so blue thinking about you
Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree
Won't mean a thing if you're not here with me
I'll have a blue Christmas, that's certain
And when that blue heartache starts hurtin'
You'll be doin' all right with your Christmas of white
But I'll have a blue, blue Christmas
The lyrics of "Blue Christmas" by Nashville Cast revolve around the sadness and emptiness that one feels during the holidays when they are separated from their loved ones. The lines "I'll have a blue Christmas without you, I'll be so blue thinking about you" express this sense of loneliness, as the singer anticipates the emotional pain of spending the holiday season without their loved one. The decorations of red on a green Christmas tree are meaningless without the person they love being here to share the joy of the season with. The repetition of the phrase "blue Christmas" throughout the song further emphasises the feeling of melancholy and sadness.
The second part of the song highlights the contrast between the singer's blue Christmas and the white Christmas that the person they love is experiencing. The line "You'll be doin' all right with your Christmas of white" suggests that the person they miss is enjoying a happy Christmas filled with white snow and merry surroundings while they are feeling blue. The phrase "when that blue heartache starts hurtin'" further emphasizes the pain and heartache that the singer is enduring, despite the holiday season being a time for joy and celebration.
In summary, "Blue Christmas" is a poignant song that captures the sense of loss and loneliness that some people feel during the holiday season. It reminds us that Christmas can be a difficult time for those separated from loved ones, and that the decorations and festivities of the season may not hold the same meaning if we are not surrounded by the people we cherish.
